It's actually incredibly frustrating to fight people with much higher ping when you have low ping. The speed at which people turn changes based on the ping disparity, so you need to understand the ping of the person you're fighting within seconds or you'll find yourself missing melee swings when they should hit - same applies to rays and archery(have to understand where their hitbox will be based off how much ping you believe they have). Training yourself to predict model position, rather than where the model is rendered on your screen is definitely something I've never experienced in any other FPS and it's one of the few things I can't stand about Darkfall.
that is very true, but a skilled player will learn after a few bow shots if they lag, like you if your arrow doesn't hit in front, aim behind, its a staple in darkfall to learn your opponents ping and i think that is the issue here more than anything man. The thing is, in melee if you have low ping you have stretch armstrong reach, combine that with the laggy hitbox trailing behind EU players etc, it makes for really unfair looking videos and makes people not want to play if they have high ping knowing they will be disadvantaged beyond their player-skill
It's the prediction system that causes the speeding up you see when people with high ping change directions, when the system predicts wrong it has to speed up to catch up to the new trajectory. Your ping + your enemys ping is the number that determines how harsh these corrections will be as they determine how big the delay between them changing directions and your client knowing about it is. While it is harder to hit people the higher ping they have, its equally (or rather more due to other effects of high ping) harder for them to hit you, as the same speeding up effect will occur on their screens when looking at you, even if you have low ping, the effect will simply be much greater when a high pinger is fighting another high pinger. darkfall could definitely handle this better but completely getting rid of this problem requires clientside hit detection which isnt without its problems either.
@pvecrafterist It comes down to making the decision as a developer(or producer in the case of most video games) if you want to "trust" the client. Calculating minkowski sums or MBB server and client side, then adjusting the delta between them over time has its obvious drawbacks. I don't know the internals of this engine, but I'd rather make it cater toward the client side and make a damn good attempt at preventing any reverser from making hacks easily.
I've played with every ping you see people playing with today 90-100 is the sweet range for me. below 40 and people start to warp in melee a lot and hitboxes are fucking wonky.
First of all stfu Second I have 100 ping and I'm pretty sure I can't hit people from 10 feet away like this video is showing
iv played with 250, 10 and 100 ping and i can tell you right now, 250 is the best ping in the game. Nice one Animal, i think we got them on this one.
It's easier to hit someone with high ping leaving melee due to their hitbox lagging behind them. But it is harder to trade hit for hit with them due to the increased rubber banding of the character model. Have someone with 100+ ping and someone with -40 ping squirrel next to each other. It really shows am the difference than watching the two fight each other. @Truedon i played destro with 85-110 ping and never had an issue during beta.
and I thought you couldn't get any less intelligent --- Post updated --- side note: this video makes me want to move to new York cause that advantage, regardless of player skill, is incredible
I mean, yea having that unbelievably low ping gives him a small-to-medium advantage, but he won these fights by a landslide. Very aggressive, brutal melee stickies. Enjoyed it.
I mean, I've never seen a sword hit from that far away, but well played. Really wish they could make the game client detection, but I fear how bad shit would get messed up.
There is no possible advantage to be gained from high ping, lower ping is always better for everything in this game. animal isnt even trolling though he is serious what we are seeing here is him rationalizing how he gets put to the bin by high pingers in the context of the main axiom of his world view which is that he is the best.
