Close the continents - keep only mainland for launch

    Mainland can support 20x more population than there has been during beta's peak.

    If this game is launched with continents accessible, population will be diluted and the game will look like it does now, dead.

    A bit off topic, but I'd be ok with one of the islands (Lookin at you, niff) being entirely sanctioned off like the beginner cities are for the 24 hour timer, and having the timer raised to like a week+. If a new player doesn't want to leave and join in on the actual game, that's fine, they're still a paying sub. (YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT, SAFE ZONES*. FUCK YOU)

    *Safe zones that are one-directional are fine, imo. If you never leave, oh well. But once you do leave, there's no going back, you're stuck with us in Agon.

    Lmao Nifflheim is so shit people are just willing to write it off entirely

    TBH I'm fine with either option

    To make Niffl a Carebear Island would take a decent amount of work to do right assuming you want to prevent abuse and negative affects on the economy

    And personally I think there ARE merits to Launching with only mainland then opening the sub continents up 1 at a time over a period of months

    The positives


    Keeps everyone closer creating more pvp and making the game feel WAY more populated.

    It would also slow inflation in the economy down (more competition for fewer resources) and slow down the speed to which people acquire end game gear and exponential power advantage

    As well as sustaining that "OMG get on now kids! Land Rush/ big patch effect"

    The huge world is one of the things I love about the game. Never shrink it.

    I agree. I think it's possible to centralize players without cutting out areas of the game by adding incentives for players to live in the main continent instead.

    That's the best thing, it's just not worse than what DF UW did which is making most area's of the game look the same.

    Overall, DF UW had the right size and it wasn't hard to find anyone. We were still able to find ppl with 70 online players or less.

    Theres definitely more than 70 people playing. At peak hours I would guesstimate pop at ~300. Problem is map feels too big for that many people. Closing continents for launch would be a balancing nightmare for resources though, and with 2000+ people the large map works fine.

    Midmap is 20x20 ish chunks (400 zones), 2k player is roughly 5 per chunk which is still low.

    Who cares about balancing ressources, a full bank on an empty server makes no sense.

    Right now, there is maybe .1 or .2 player per chunks, which means you have to travel about 10km before you see 1 person.

    People don't spread out like that. 2000 people would mean 10 holdings around mid map couldn't even hold all the players. Chaos cities would be overflowing.

    But its so pretty..... just get people to play and fill out the world. Despite AV's tendency to be terrible their art team did a great job.

    They should have a tiny island like skull island for this purpose, something small enough that players want to figure out the game and get the fuck off the continent.

    It's not that simple or we wouldn't be talking about it. The map size needs to correlate with the population. Most importantly everyone needs to understand it could be as a temporary setting. Closing off the continents other than agon and restructuring them could be GREAT expansion content that would actually bring people to the game. That's a big change something BPG has done nothing of. And the current map size just isn't working.

    We're talking about darkfall where NOTHING is centralized, and the population doesn't cater to the map size. So if you want to farm the leenspar golem on cairn, and you want to farm a selentine golem right after. You're looking at 30 min of real life spent just looking at your horse while traveling because the map is so big.

    yep the travel times on even the outer continents is rough travelling from apautan to mehatil, khayud to fahnarkh, or tirghan to dayar etc. Maps fucking big for sure. The key to solving that issue imo is obviously more people #1 and #2 a better fast travel system (need more wilderness chambers), and finally #3 if we're going the wilderness portal route give people the option to have recalls to 1-2 places they can bind at that don't use a runestone and they can recall to from anywhere like a portal tie/recall @DestLocke or rune books from uo (didn't play uo but sounds good) @Franchise

    Theres about 50 player cities and outposts, about 40 holdings and also chaos cities.

    Thats 20 person per holding if theyre afk sitting in them all day.

    maybe 50 in the big ones and 10 in the small ones. Its getting damn close to what it SHOULD be.

    Sure they could resize the map, but its a waste of resources imo. I played the game with a completely full server, and the map size was appropriate for 10k players online. They need to aim their game to get 10k players or it is already a failure. If they can't reach a population that supports the map size they are not going to make a game that will financially survive long term.

    Keep map large and get the population to fill it. If you don't then you can finagle the map size.

    I support splitting mainland down the center and pulling it apart, making a large sea in the middle. I encourage more water based activities and really fast ships.

    wtb fire ships (vile forge cannon and flame cannon already ig) that need to be close up to hit but does tons of damage to boats (but not buildings, possible to do that?) and is very fast.
