It wasn’t a flex you were talking like you were a driving force and this was the original plan. Fix alignment means punishments for being red. Simple. See the game that designed it: ultimate online. And yes everything that you(bpg) added alienated some of the playerbase. I don’t understand how you don’t understand “ everything YOU(bpg) built drove people out” Go down the checklist of changes from the beginning and some people hated every change and left. From reduced grind to random ass portals all over the place etc etc. Not to mention QA was subpar(I’m being polite) Everyone who bought in did so because they LOVED DARKFALL. Everyone who bought in did so because “we aren’t going to change darkfall” Rage has nothing to do with race wars it’s because you gang banged something I loved in front of me and there was nothing I could do but hand you a towel. had you(bpg) changed NOTHING but added stuff like dyes you would have a much higher pop. In fact a full revert would bring a lot of people back even now. Not as much as launch brought but that ship has sailed at this point. The alignment thing is a PERSONAL grudge that I could have lived with or without had the game remained the same. It makes sense though. The game needed a little structure not lord of the flies mentality. Obviously your vision doesn’t match mine. I wish you luck you will need it.
I have to point out that most players quit because when they sign up they are signing up for an MMORPG but darkfall falls way short of what an MMORPG is. The character progression in ROA is too short for the majority of players that play an MMO considering there is nothing to do besides endlessly kill mobs to acquire titles. After a single week or at most 2 weeks a new player can, without problem, get all their skills up to 3-4 and level all their stats to 100(110 only takes a number of hours killing double mid map spawns) People that want to play an MMORPG do not want their character progression to end that quickly and it is near impossible to fix that currently. No successful MMO has reduced the character grind anywhere close to that of ROA. There is little reason for a new player to continue to play the game after a month unfortunately. Within this time period they can do everything in the game without much trouble.
Yep, and that's the main type of player we attract which is why we're focusing more on PVE right now. More pve will equal more pvp anyway, so we just need to get the people out there doing.
Got through the first part where they said its not an arena and they won't cater to that, then remembered all they've done is cater to those people and stopped reading.
IMO It was Aventurine who started messing with Darkfall formula. Darkfall from February 2009 (minus exploits and bugs) was more newbie / casual friendly than Darkfall 2012. elemental magic barely better than lesser magic -> less things to grind / macro NPC vendors do not sell reagents -> there is actual economy and trade, and newbies could make money R50 / R60 are barely better than R40 -> who cares, newbie clans do not have rare ore mines once you go red you cannot trade in NPC cities -> there are actual newbie traders willing to travel to chaos cities constant PvP at goblin spawns - reds or racial enemies vs ad-hoc groups of blue players You could actually create new character and go PvP with goblin sword and shield and armor from skelies. And if enemies were too powerful, newbie could always retreat to towers. Long term progression was there, hardly anyone could do high level enchanting or build ships - but it was not interfering so much with newbies having fun.
Except the entire intro of that is staged #fakenews I dont know of a single person who actually camped goblin spawns except jet boom
They definitiely exist. There was also that one random dude who thought he was actually good because of it at RoA launch. Point is. The seamless world of vets and noobs not intermingling doesn't exist without some proper game structure to help.
We have new players trying out the game from time to time and breathing room to get started is one of the feedbacks we've gotten. Lawful changes coming up are a part of that as is changes to new player start locations and quests to name a few. They will be coming in mid to late September roughly.
I would be shocked if pop somehow goes up soon with wow just launching, I didn't think it would take many darkfall players but dang a lot of us are trying it. Maybe in 2+ months
