Read this week's Friday update for a quick development and team update. Read more: Alpha Update - April 22nd
The upgrade from Java 6 to 8 will bring along security patches and by diving deeper into the code to make these changes we'll have a better understanding of the inner workings to fix up potential security holes. It's essentially a code exploration project built into a parallel upgrade of tech debt project. Our lead devs will be focusing on larger technical upgrades while juniors focus on game design changes while being supported by the leads. Nysko for example is working on UI upgrades, Nooblet is working on XML updates to various formulas and variables. I won't go into too much detail because that's their info to share on Tuesday . I just get excited talking about our guys work and seeing the company gears moving forward on making RoA the game we all dreamed of as a community. Ok I'll stop . -Andrew
Super exciting news! Thank you very much, it is much appreciated. Regarding expansion of lore/marketing, I was wondering if there would be anyway to get involved. I would be interested in possibly writing, videos and voice work. I took a great interest in Darkfall Online's lore, regarding races and architecture, mythos; what there was anyways. I truly believe there is a great deal of potential for storytelling in the world of Agon. Both the telling of the world that once was, as well as the world that will become as the players begin to leave their marks.
Not every update is going to be wtfomgsickcrazy! Just enjoy communication on a constant, stable level:
Oh I'm so happy to hear you guys are looking into doing the lore in game! You really can make the game very immersive by adding tons of lore to discover in game. My first gaming love was Asheron's Call which was highly centered around lore content for updates. Every month (usually on time even!) they would release a patch in the form of Lore. Which blended the actual game updates with a storyline and content that made you feel like you were part of the evolving game. Very immersive. If you could manage half that immersion with DF lore going in game on a regular basis and updates....man that could be a game I could see lasting the test of time like AC has done with a solid loyal fan base.
Regarding the lore, you should do more than just a section of a website that most gamers will never look at or even know about. It has to be represented in game too. There's nothing more immersion breaking than having to alt tab to learn more about a game world. Add more interesting NPC dialogue, quest descriptions and cool things to see in the worlds more less travelled places. Perhaps add readable 'scrolls' that give information about the world in small chunks and have us collect them all. Cool stuff like that which complements the game rather than something outside of the game that kind of doesn't matter.
Concerning hacks, why is it so complicated to find something to prevent it? I mean is it illegal to scan running apps/scripts on the computer before launching game or while the game is on? I understand that it's certainly impossible to scan computer of every players in game but include a tool that you can activate randomly to scan apps and scripts?
Good update, and I'm so glad to hear that focus is being put on Lore development aswell. Even tho I'm not an RP fan, it's truly something the game lacked to make sense of the game world for new players, and would add even more immersion to the game for them. Also regarding hacking, it will never be completely gone, although I trust BPG will be able to handle it more efficient than AV did, and that goes a long way itself in the battle vs. hackers/cheaters.
