MMOs are much slower and more laborious to develop since there's a lot of connected systems and the implications of decisions can become apparent long after they've been made under different conditions.

Something that was very hard can become very easy, or the opposite. Systems that take a lot of work can seem intangible but are vital for other things that are tangible. In the context of this thread the zone changes for instance are important for other systems we're developing which will use Zone 2.

We don't disclose exactly what these things are as we might have done in the past.

We're getting closer, the NPE is necessary for advertising to be effective. It's on the horizon.

Combat and character development are very much sandbox style. Not many themepark games where you can wear any type of armor, use any combination of skills, train what skills you want in what order you want on a single character. The other sandbox gameplay you mention, while sandboxy in nature, are just a sliver of what sandbox can and should be and are very much something that could be thrown into a themepark game and no one would even consider them to be sandbox, except maybe player driven events.

There are still articles archived out there that discuss what DF was suppose to be and I highly suggest reading them. Not because I want anyone to think anything less of DFO, but because knowing what people expected vs what they got is important when discussing this stuff. Fenrir claimed that the sales numbers of DFO suggested how many people were interested in a full loot open world pvp MMO, when it's only a small fraction of what they expected.

It never ceases to amaze me how people will come to a full loot, PVP centric game and expect it to cater to their carebear dreams.

That’s not what they expect. The idea of the danger is intriguing, but the execution df presents is unbearable for most. That’s why games like Eve and Albion do much better in this day and age people can take a step back, still play the same game, and not get wiped every few seconds. They choose their level of danger and rewards.

EVE, ran by an asian company, is more "hardcore" (can die anywhere) than darkfall. GG.

Albion is more comparable to this new version of darkfall, no longer eve.

It's possible, but it's extremely rare. The comparison is still fine.

then what are all the ways you will get you ganked?

There are lots of idiots^^ Though just being unlucky like you said will aswell, i played with a gank group for about a year and if we had waited for what we felt was to long, the next person we came across in almost anything would catch it.

looks super carebear... how about a patch?

"Each subcontinent and center map will now have 8 different high quality enchanting materials in addition to having 4 different rare resources"

these materials came out february 15'th... we still have no new armors or dyes.

    they changed focus again
will prolly change again or maybe ahh hell who knows what is next.
Now the representative talking in this thread is hiding they're identity lol
either it is an anyone account for them to speak on or they just dun want you to know who is talking.. My guess is people like that "genius" kilrain or whatever and this GM spaghetti guy have made enough mistakes as authority figures that they now have to censure who is actually talking in an attempt to avoid fallout

Partial loot is worst idea I ever read about Darkfall. DF is always full-loot game. Zone 2 must be zone 3. One solid free pvp zone.
    Other changes might work.

It's designed as a 3 zone system to allow players to choose their risk level. Highest risk will continue to contain all the top end resources.

Instead of partial loot in zone 2 have you guys considered instead having stricter PK penalties? Like maybe skill loss upon death or other punishments for murderers? That would make PKers have to consider the risk/reward of killing a blue

There are always ways around penalties. Alts is a big one. If you have 2 characters you only need one free trial to do the killing and your regular character gets all the benefits. Even if alts were not an issue you can just have clan reds ready to take the hit for kills.

But with skill loss peoples murdering alts would lose skills and abilities after dying. Making them pretty weak which would make it harder for them to kill higher skilled blue players. No one likes regrinding to get where they once were so it would make reds think twice about killing blues

why would I care about your opinion? it’s something that could be considered, as it has kept PK populations in check in other games. It’ll still happen but it won’t be happening all the time. Implement it or don’t, or some variation of it, or do partial loot, whatever, I don’t care lol

I doubt anything will ever attract a large audience to darkfall
