If they have a problem changing scrolls numbers I can't imagine their troubles adding actual shit. Lol. Number changes are about as easy of a change as they come.
Maybe with your vast knowledge of programming and how the custom sphaghetti string of DF code works you should app up to the team and show em how easy it is!
Assuming their code isn't an absolutely disgusting mess (which I'm assuming this part isn't as they changed them significantly already), the changes should be able to be scripted anyway.. While it's true that there's often a sentiment of 'You don't know coding so you can't comment' that are right, and there's age old golden nuggets that all coders hate to be asked like 'how easy would it be to... ?.' which all comes from assumption with no knowledge, there are also times when it's valid to call out things that should be easy for a company trying to evolve a game from the ground up. E.G simply changing values of specific strings. I'm not a contractor but if someone told me it would takes months to lay new brick on my driveway I'd rightfully think they weren't experienced enough. And if the code is so fucked that this can't be done quickly, good luck expecting a lot of big changes to happen in any reasonable timeline.
Because you also know what it looks like lol. If they took some time to just organize the code then it wouldn't be a problem at all.
I really cant understand whats the reason ppl is bitching so much... whats exactly is supporting for u guys? C H I L L anyone missing DFUW? or TASOS?
how is this not everyone's baseline point of view? a volunteer dev team working with the trainwreck of DFO is never going to implement major changes quickly... is there someone out there expecting this?
They did everything we wanted. Way too late. And they took a month to do what is essentially a hotfix that should have been done MUCH sooner, days or a week after what this patch addressed came out like the R70 reach, texture patch, etc. They killed the beta waiting this long to fix it, and they couldn't even get the increased skill gains right. The game needs big changes though, and if they're unable to do it we're holding onto false hope for the future of this game unless a miracle happens.
those bigs changes are going to take a long, long time to happen. that should have been obvious from the get go.
I have been aware, hence why I've voiced my concerns many times in the past. It's just sad knowing the chances of this game failing/not reaching it's full potential a 3rd time are so high.
The code is not fucked in any way. It wouldn't be a difficult task to change the numbers on the scrolls but it would be a couple of hours wasted from our perspective. The gains we changed were all the ones effected by the global modifiers which took 10 minutes from changing it to testing.
And that's where a big problem comes in. Because 90% of the big posters on this forum are spreading faux optimism. Saying that launch will bring all these new players and all these vets and the game will feel alive and in a year BPG would have fixed all this major stuff and RoA will be popping. Yet, if you hold a stance of 'the odd fights are fun now and I'll play when I can, but unless you can find other ways to bring in players without simply hoping for the best, it's going to be dead a few months into launch' you're labeled as a doomsayer and again all you hear is the apologists coming out in droves. The vocal minority that push 'just keep doing what you're doing, we all love these little changes and hundreds of new players that have never heard of DF will love that you added protection in towns and stuff!' only harms RoA in that it's the feedback that BPG are going to take on the most, you see it enough that it almost becomes believable. New content or NPE isn't going to bring in enough new players. Do something different. You can tinker with values all you want, the people that are going to give BPG full time jobs and give everyone here a year or two of RoA madness don't give a shit.
People will come back for this patch. Yes I believe you should just buff papyrus/essence drops to solve the whole to lazy to buff scrolls thing. But you can get pvp viable in a few days now. Ppl will play. But Jesus fucking Christ enough with this alignment bullshit. Make a pvp zone, arena, something. Betas already screwed, everyone has everything from city mines/seatowers. No one is farming cause it's wiping soon, this game is all about pvp till launch, show everyone what the game could be like. Give us an arena like area. BTW last I remember that whole event you did with 100+ people was an epic fail with horrible server performance.... alignment changes don't fix that, that is what ur goin for right? Huge pvp fights? You can't test performance with 20 people playing. Give us something
The notes are underwhelming, but in game its great. Some things weren't in the notes like the huge reduction, maybe even elimination of player load lag.
Could be a result of the texture fixes, armor/weapons/models may have been adjusted which would have affected that. Anyone else having reduced player load lag?
Nice patch but how come there is still ways to get blue blocked after u guys made this toggle? Glad you didn't keep blue blocking for war decked ppl as a disadvantage to "griefers" who attack a warred target first, (like wtf kind of thinking is that anyways) but why not just prevent displacement effects (which would include mount hitting an afk out of npc city) on blues when u have hit protection on? How come if a warred person is winning a melee exchange against a clanny and a blue is near I'll quickly die to towers if i stormblast them apart? (Almost Instantly die in certain locations) Or a blue just runs into an aoe, I should die for that? Just complete the hit protection concept there shouldn't be any way u can get blue blocked in a npc city with "hit protection" on. Should just be called Direct hit protection if not. (which is dumb.. right guys?). Its not like anyone wants to die instantly to towers anyways nor should they in these situations. 99.9 percent safe zone besides the fact that u can choose to kill urself almost instantly, think hitting someone once with 1 guard tower around may leave u at like 60hp. Omg I complained about something please stop trying to appease the player base BPG, learn ur lesson! Nothing you do will ever be good enough omg such a good patch and ppl still have complaints about thing holy shit I can't even.
