Today we discuss how we plan to move towards a Freemium release and how you can help us prioritize this endeavor. Read more: Prioritizing a Freemium Release
Gold cap, limit the number of trades on the marketplace to a handful, 50% cut in village loot, 50% cut in gold drops and/or general loot from mobs, skill gains 50% the speed of premium, cannot place a house nor bind to a house, fast travel costs more shards, etc etc. Plenty of ways to gimp freebie accounts. Maybe tier it such that buying items from the nithron shop raises some limits to in between free and premium, etc. I think going freemium before dealing with the new player experience is a bad idea though.
Great point. Honestly what we need is a Team C that will work entirely on new player experience and freemium in tandem.
Change your billing department to where it accepts discover credit cards! I would have given you guys 100's of doll hairs by meow
Given the probable financial constraints implied by going freemium, even if this was a set of youtube tutorials/wiki articles created by the community that are linked in the game for new players as a resource, it would be something... Maybe it's time for BPG to create at minimum a wiki hosted here that is curated by a select few players.
I mean, have you not perused the new player tips and tricks? There's a lot of solid information there. Granted, it's not an end all be all, but it would at least provide a decent starting point for people. Helped a lot of people I've brought to the game.
After the initial tutorial, you should really link to some of the player created new player guides. These were immensely informative and pertinent for new players.
A lot of people are very angry at the fact that they're not able to win most fights with their 3-4 man groups anymore, and that's ok. This game isn't for them.
In Darkfall, there SHOULD be a place for solos, there SHOULD be a place for duos, and there SHOULD be a place for groups of 3 to 5. But right now with two huge alliances in game every contest comes down to who brings the bigger zerg. I don't think BPG revamped villages expecting them to be 15 v 15 battles, but because they are TOO lucrative now, combined with the fact that only ONE is portable every 30 minutes, that's what happened. Killing spawn scaling means that it doesn't make any sense to bring 2 or 3 people if you want to make bank.
Free account: * Soft cap on skills - Can purchase mastery-level skills, but mastery skill gains are capped at ~25-50% percent and that progress won't be unlocked until Premium time is purchased (once premium time expires, mastery-level skills will return to level 1 until more Premium time is added). Perhaps a secondary "progress bar" could be placed under the skill showing what the skill progress would be if you upgraded to Premium. - Exp rate for combat skills sharply diminishes after level 3. However, a secondary progress bar under the skill would show what your progress would be if you had Premium. Like mastery-level skills, this progress would unlock when you buy Premium time and revert when you don't have it, except there would be no exp-rate nerf for your potential level like with the above mastery-level skills, just with the free account skill gains. * Hard stat-cap at 100 - If you have a Premium account and time runs out, your stats would be locked to 100. A secondary bar underneath your stats would show what they would return to if you purchased more Premium time. Unlike skills, you cannot earn "potential stat gains" while being a Free account. * Inability to craft or pilot ships/boats -You can still man the cannons, but you can't craft or steer the ships themselves. * Marketplace restrictions - Limit of 5 purchases per day - Can only list 5 items/stacks at a time * Bank restrictions - Can only have 1,000 items/stacks as opposed to 2,000 * Travel restrictions (iffy on this one) - Can travel freely throughout the mainland, but the other continents are walled-off. - Much of the ocean is still available, but the other-continent restriction remains. - (Runebook / runestone restrictions?) *Property restrictions - You can enter a house and use all its amenities (safe, etc.) but you cannot own one, be an invited resident at one, or pay house taxes. Premium Account: Same benefits we have now, but perhaps we get some amount of Nithron coins per month of Premium time in addition.
I've collected a lot of videos in my bread that noobs would love for this purpose. I'm a visual learner, as are lots of people i'm sure, so seeing something really helps get me involved. https://forums.riseofagon.com/threads/rise-of-agon-new-player-video-library.10016/
please dont rush this freenium model... Its all about retetion... still many anoying buggs ingame.. I would say : - flesh out the buggs - wait till TC patch... - then go F2P with marketing campaign and steam Currently roa is rising as pop.. we all get excited... but currently its only the old darkfallers returning.. what you want to accomplish is that new players horde in... And already said above.. many buggs still.. and missing TC patch and content.
not sure where you get this info from.. But for every developer who wanne sell their game on steam costs less then 100 euro fee. its called direct steam. https://store.steampowered.com/sub/163632/ you think your the only one with a small budget?
It's not that the initial costs are too high, it's the intermittent costs of keeping the product on steam and the other BS that goes along with it, something to the effect of 60% of revenue going to the platform or some BS like that.
