We recently released this Friday's update which provides an update on our team and announces our first live Discord Q&A. Please feel free to discuss this update and ask any questions that you may have!
"another musician to help in our on-going project to re-write and introduce a new musical score for Darkfall" Is that due to the fact that you don't actually have the right to use the original music in darkfall? were there any repercussions for launching the alpha with that music still in the game? /popcorn gif
Its because Godzilla has expressed dislike over the musical score actually. unsubstantiated rumor creation inc.
We figure you all will have questions on game design and other areas of the company that we are happy to answer. Obviously some things may be premature at this point in time, but we will do our best to answer as many questions as we can and those we cannot, we will revisit when the time is right. In regards to the musical score, our plan from the beginning was always to create a brand new musical score for our game, since it is being developed as a new game. We plan to make as many changes as possible to make Darkfall: Rise of Agon unique and different from Darkfall Online, without of course jeopardizing the core aspects of the game that made us begin this project in the first place.
We would love to be able to give you an ETA, it's not that we have one and we're hiding it from you. Last time we rushed to get our servers back up, we got ourselves in the situation that we're in today, and we have no intention of repeating past mistakes. There has been a lot of progress from our lead developers on the various areas where work is needed, and I hope that in the next week we will have a better grasp of when to expect the servers (and our new user interface changes) brought back online.
I understand why the servers are down, and why you guys arent bringing them back up until things are in a better state.. but it has been a month ++ and still there is no actual grasp of a timeline or ballpark.. Hype train de-railed a month ago, I honestly was expecting a community competition announcement this update.. Whats the eta of the eta on that? What are you guys going to do when New Dawn releases their In-Dev the 30th?
I know DFO players are competitive - but we've already seen what happens when one dev team tries to out-compete the other. Let ROA/BPG get on with things at the slower, more steady pace they're now sensibly taking. That way it's more likely a game might actually launch.
Take your time! I hope for a badass motherfucking ORK music all over AGON HAIL THE FIREDRAGON HAIL THE MIGHTY IRON ORKS
Continue to work hard? The over competitiveness got us into this mess so I'm happy things have slowed down and are more deliberate.
Working hard would be based on that they had a goal or an expectation to meet a requirement.. Rather than an attitude of "when its ready" or "when its done".. Those goals or requirements are open ended and produce a lax work environment.. a great environment to play quake with some buddies in the office. I'm all for them being careful, but not setting expectations or goals worries me, and if they cant set expectations or goals because they have no grasp of when those goals can be met, that also worries me when its been well over a month.. You say its an amateur move to release early, and I agree, and I also believe its an amateur move to not set goals/expectations.. If you want to be safe with your eta/goal setting.. Take your first estimate and double it, then surprise us all when its early.
We have goals and expectations internally, have no fear of that. That doesn't mean that it is in the best interest of this project to release those to the public, especially since the whole point of this endeavor is to secure the game from potential hackers trying to ruin the experience of others. The only goal/expectation that we plan to make public is when these tasks are expected to be completed and our servers re-opened, and as I mentioned previously we hope to have a better grasp of that by the end of next week. I understand your frustration, but rest assured the developers working on these security issues have a strong grasp of what needs to be accomplished to secure the game, and have been hard at work on completing those tasks. We expect the game to be more secure than ever before once our servers come back online.
I can't believe I missed the live discussion, did it get recorded by any chance? Also, thanks for the mention @MWTaylor! --- Post updated --- month, 2 months, what does it matter really? I would hope that they don't worry to much about what New Dawn does, I don't see it as a competition. Neither of the 2 companies are working on similar features, they are both opposite extremes of each other. I hope they take all the time they need/want and get it right then to have to shut down again.
Recording was done by Ragnorak and was posted on Reddit, can be found here - We should be having a TLDR write up type deal paired with our friday announcement for those that don't want to listen to the 1.5~ hour long recording.
