New armors that require new materials could actually be a good thing for the economy by being used as a kind of soft wipe like AV did in 2009 to mob dropped fullplate and it could also help combat scroaching. I disagree with @Inositol on armor NOT affecting offensive magic output I think it's retarded that in this game you could wear dogshit armor or even none at all and STILL have maxed out magic damage/cast speed/mana efficiency Like wise with heavy metal armor having the same swing speed as leather. There was basically no downside to wearing heavy as fuck max protection metal armor and going destroyer. You were a tank and a DPS burst beast and it left ZERO room for high end leathers or robes. Armor should definitely offer things other than just protection I'm NOT saying BPG WILL actually do these armor and balance changes CORRECTLY... just that it COULD be done in a way that makes the game better overall. I get the whole "leave it alone because BPG has a better than not chance of making shit worse" mentality, but at the same time the status quo isn't exactly appealing to very many players.
So was this an announcement of a patch? Things are being patched, it's happening at an undetermined time in the future. Awesome, thank you for clearing that up.
The armor patch will be mostly be balanced around encumbrance and protections. Heavy armor will have the highest physical protections and highest encumbrance and be more suitable for Melee. Leather armor will have high elemental protections while having medium encumbrance at the cost of physical protections and be more suitable for Archery. Robes will have attributes that are more suitable for magic though only newly crafted robes will be any good as old robes will be very low tier. Players can still mix and match the armors as they please but it opens up more options for how they want to build their character and paperdoll. The existing armor pieces that players are using now will be updated with the patch with the new protections and mages who are using bone with other armor mixed in can still use that armor but they may need to adjust it slightly as protections and encumbrance values will change. Non Mastery armors should also be more viable after the armor patch compared to before reducing the gear gap a little bit for new players though mastery equipment will still be very desirable for veterans who can afford it. (bone+mixed armor will be more suitable for hybrids and 5-20'ish encumbrance mages) Heavy = Melee Focused Armor Leather = Archery Focused Armor Robe = Magic Focused Armor Bone = Hybrid Focused Armor (mix with other pieces as desired) I may release a public version of the armor calculator that I created for the balancing of armors after the patch is released.
‘Twas once an old man with indestructible dreams. Patch notes released hoping to ease his worries. As specifics unfurled describing combat themes The old man was forever fucked by BPG
This sounds incredibly boring and like a waste of development resources. None of these armors add anything new to the game, it's just as I said in my prior post - studded armor but more expensive and different colours. I suggest a revision before the player base proceeds to not even remotely care about this armor patch.
Indestructible will likely return shortly after the armor patch. I kept it in mind though there will be a period of public testing and feedback before it's patched. The new armors will have completely new armor models and textures and not simply be recolored versions of existing armors, it will be a lot different than what it seems like you're suggesting.
I like how they added the materials without adding the armor, effectively creating a faucet without a sink. When the armor is eventually added, its value will be so diminished compared to what it would've been naturally. Normally, when new armor and materials are added in tandem, there's a spike of activity and fighting over the new resources, but everyone will already have a stockpile lmfao
We decided to add the resources first to give players time to collect the resources for the following reasons. 1) Many of the existing crafting recipes will be updated with new resources (example: new wood for the existing mastery bows) and we didn't want to block off much of old crafting in the game once the patch hits. 2) We wanted players to be able to start using the new gear right away and give them time to level up and prepare for it, though they will still need to level up tailoring mastery. There is about x20 as many rare ores/ingots in the game as the new resources so there will still be a lot of fighting for resources once the patch hits.
a full inferno guy does alot of damage on archery atm. im assuming u guys are changing current numbers considering encumbrance cuz if not theres no reason to play leather. also on the paper thats looks pretty much like new dawn or im wrong?
A player in Full Leather can have similar elemental protections without the archery encumbrance that comes with Full Heavy Armor. They sacrifice physical protections to have medium encumbrance but should be about equal in a long range fight with each other (heavy vs leather) where the player in Leather will deal more arrow damage against mages thanks to encumbrance and the player in heavy has the advantage in melee. The pieces of armor can also be mixed up so you're not restricted to wearing a full set of one type of armor but these examples are with full sets.
actually if ya seen what they said about this before is that the window only make it so when ya siege outside of it the cost is much higher. It is not anti content. Still do it anytime just have to pay to grief.
How can you not look at that objectively even a little? Do ya really think it makes sense that heavy armor users will have the best gear while mage or archery focused would have to wait weeks or even months to wear the best gear? I mean use your brain along with your feelings for better results.
I don't know why I'm even replying to you, but this is so ironic lol If the current armor is on par with the new armor, then there's no issue, and we get a surge of activity whoa
my point is: the damage in leather set need to be significantly bigger than in a full heavy for ppl pick leather. (are u guys changing atack speed also or just damage on encumbrance?)
See what I want to know, Why are BPG further fucking with combat when it’s already CLEAR that they have no idea what they are doing when it comes to combat? People want a REASON to fight, to farm. People DO NOT want new fucking armour and further changes to the combat system. Everybody wanted a full combat revert to fix your mistakes, and now you have just shitpiled this on to your players. What’s even the point anymore?
