this is great. I mean.. I would just make 3 static alliances at war with each other, clans could align to the one that prefer and I would add a teleport from/to your own alliance keeps. a few small steps and you get wars like daoc and eso. You really like to overcomplicate things
Taxes are paid by the claim owner, they would be responsible to tax their tenants. So if I own a claim with a house, I add you to the claim and you place a villa. I will now pay taxes for both the house and villa. I will choose how much to charge you for living in my claim. If you don't pay me what I want I can just evict you.
No, not at all. --- Post updated --- this doesn't have anything to do with factions at all and nothing you do with territory control either. The only relation to territory control is you can't place a house in a city tile unless you have permission and if a clan takes control of a non city tile they get to collect some of the taxes you pay. --- Post updated --- Just think if it as an advanced form if housing.
You should seriously consider an expendable nithron coin item that lets you mount a ganked head on a stake, and then set that up like a pole near your house, providing an overview of who the head belonged to (and maybe who the ganker was) when moused over by another player. Would buy, if only for the rp.
If done right this could be groundbreaking but to me this sounds too ambitious and over promising for me to get excited. This can't be done in any short amount of time without it being broken and unfinished. The last time something this big was teased it was Darkfall Arena/Darkfall 2010 and just thinking about it leaves a nasty taste. To think we could be going from DF2010 to DF2020.
We've been scouting and contemplating dynamic building for literally a year while we've been working on other things. Dynamic housing and TCS will both use the claim system which will allow us to get them in at the same time. By comparison the market was probably more difficult as we interfaced on so many systems, had new databases and systems plus the extensive interface features, it was a beast. Dynamic building may actually be relatively easier as foundations for claims(village sensors) and placing houses(Siege stones) are pre existing. Tj has had a plan for this system for a while and the claims piece was the final design piece we added to this idea which will make it work.
Interesting, let's see how this plays out. I still think the ease of access to personal teleportation will leave a lot to be filled in terms of teamwork/clan cooperative gameplay.
Not sure the issue you are alluding to? If you can easily join up your team at an activity wouldn't that improve group activities as more people can join you?
Yes but where is the necessity/drive for teaming up? At the current state of the game, the only purpose to team up with people is because: A. you enjoy playing with them B. your opponent has more numbers. Everything else is a solo mans game. Wealth? Solo. Crafting? Solo. Transportation? Solo. PVP is debatable because allying with people just means theres less people for you to fight. If the resource output from territory control is greater than the current possibility from solo farming, you risk the chance of complete inflation, which the game is already seeing issues with in regards to gear. If it is any less, it's worthless. You need a reason for clans/alliances to form. A tangible reason. Before it was to keep a portal network, your mines and so you could farm and get around the map. I'm referring to that gap you need to fill, which is why big clans have deserted the game.
This is actually quite worrying. If the bigger/more established clans gain access to a passive resource stream that will allow them to craft higher tier gear without wasting time on PvE, then you would effectively be pushing smaller clans to ally up just to compete. Which is basically df1 zerg vs. zerg all over again. We all know how that ended.
Zerg vs Zerg vs Zerg is amazing fun. Some of the original darkfall sieges in 2009 were incredibly fun for all involved. Implying df1 died because of zerg vs zerg fights is not even close to being correct. df1 died because of bugs/glitches/exploits/cheats. Making RoA more zerg vs zerg friendly would be good for it's future.
Those were the best times in the game and the most populated. The reason everyone was attracted to this game was large scale PvP. Now you have people that never played the game in the 1st 6 months of EU and NA DFO launch crying about zergs. The games main focus was large scale PvP everything else was all about things to do when there was no large scale PvP. That is why we came to DFO not to circle jerk around a hand full of villages and crying about the number of people that come to PvP. The game needs to get back to it's large scale roots and ignore the cry babies that want small scale arena PvP (there are tons of those games out there). Yes defects drove people away but when AV turned sieges into 2 events it made the whole process more work than fun.
I am in now way against the premise of awesome, large-scale fights or server politics. I'm just worrying about how it'll work out with a smaller population. I want to see dozens of enemy alliances, not a straight up 1 vs.1, i.e. best zerg vs. whoever is left unallied on the server.
would never really just be a 1 v 1 type of thing just because of EGO and attitude too many people that cannot get a long for long periods of time. --- Post updated --- Would be impressed to see this happen. Could have massive potential.
NOW you guys are on the right track. Get that lasting UO subscription base going boys. More fluff, more casual subs, guaranteed. Now, biggest question, WHEN? edit: One other question. Would the base land claim be able to fit say a villa or large villa?
The actual sizes are yet to be determined, and we may add in 1-2 more size variations, but what I imagine is the smallest fitting most houses, but the larger houses would leave very little room surrounding it for extra stuff.
