    Rise of Agon’s first expansion

    Times have changed. The way we fight, the way we go to war. The way we bleed and die on Agon’s cold soil. Clans rise, born of their own paths to glory – some protect, some cut down. Some seek riches, some seek bloodshed. But for all of these glory hounds, there exists one defining factor that they express all too easily – their love of battle.

    The harmony between the Mercians, Mirdain, Orks, Dwarves, Alfar and Mahirim could only last so long before splinter groups found reason to leap into conflict once more. And what better way to do so than to show their mettle and construct new and powerful structures of war and weaponry to add to the arsenal of destruction that follows these clans?

    For all that Agon is, and all it shall ever be; we will never know peace. The bloodshed will continue, and as dark figures loom in the horizon, a great evil approaches. All of Agon must ask itself…

    Is it prepared?





    Introduction
    Embers of War will include expanded clan warfare with a host of new territory control mechanics and buildings with new player owned structures both economic and military in design, this will be an expansion on the original v1.0 Territory Control currently in development. Dynamic housing will bring player made villages and remote hideaways, new customizations and house add-ons. A revamped GUI, bindings and an improved new player experience, tied with a free-to-play business model, will bring fresh meat into the fray! Brand new specialisations, armors and ancient items will allow you to define your unique playstyle in a fleshed out combat diversity expansion. With the war the denizens of Agon sense coming, many have begun started to gather their strength and kin together and a great migration of many monsters is underway! Resources and many high level monsters will be regionalized into specific zones, giving each area many unique resources and value.


    Outline of New Features

    Territory Control 2.0
    • Regional towers will allow clans to claim areas of the map and expand their territory with new customizable outposts, allowing the control of many aspects such runebook and recalling abilities and the taxation of portals and chaos
    • Purchase a variety of new items and structures in a new NPC/building in your clan capital with new resources earned from new structures to drive your clan’s war efforts of domination!
    • New political map to show off a clan's prowess
    • New alliance mechanics to link clans together as a single entity with its own leadership structure
    • Improved clan management tools to make leading a clan more enjoyable including better bank management, communication and customizable member permissions
    • Clan Leaderboard to show off your clan’s rankings in the world

    Regionalization
    • Continents will contain dozens of unique resources from enchanting materials to rare ore, leather, cloth and wood that cannot be found elsewhere in the world
    • Many high end mobs will be regionalized to specific continents giving the ability to control markets to those clans powerful enough to dominate whole areas of the map
    • Every region will contain rare materials in varying types, inter-regional trade or raids will be necessary to build all the strongest weapons, armours, staves and bows
    • Limitations on recalling with specific materials will cause raiders and defenders to meet, protecting ones lands or hauling spoils to safety.
    Dynamic Housing
    • New claims system will allow players to build houses dynamically in the world with various size claims to provide individual, small and large group plots of land
    • New house customizations including add-ons, functional and cosmetic furniture/structures
    • Existing houses will be able to be packed up and moved to the new housing system for existing owners
    • New organisation and management options to allow for truely dynamic player run villages on larger claims

    Combat Diversity
    • A variety of new specialisation choices that will give more options and combinations to try for melee, archery and magic added to the existing specialisation system
    • New relic items to help compliment your playstyle with unique bonuses and drawbacks to push interesting and niche playstyles
    • New tailoring mastery skill with advanced leather, bone and cloth armors
    • Specialty Armour options for advanced metal, leather, bone and robes to give more options than just protections.
    • Redesigned transmute system incorporating essences and new effects on spells and skills into elemental weapons and armor
    • Community involvement on combat features will be included before implementation

    Improved GUI and New Player Experience
    • Streamlined user menus with easier navigation
    • Improved binding system that includes shortcuts for binding hot bar slots
    • Improved help menu with pop up tips on first occurrence of various events
    • Improved user interface with more tooltips, information and less clutter in options
    • Improved tutorial and on-boarding to get new players into the game smoothly

    Arena System with Rankings
    • New special arena area with ranking system, spectating, and practice pits
    • Sign up to fight for riches or glory and prove yourself the ultimate gladiator.
    • Unique titles for top ranked fighters in the arena
    • Arenas of varying sizes for battles including small and medium sized groups
    • Practice and sharpen your skills as a newcomer and once sharpened use your skills to challenge the top elite of the world!

    Graphical Improvements
    • Improved graphics to include normal maps, new shaders and higher resolution textures providing more 3D detail and being more aesthetically pleasing
    • Optimizations in the engine to increase FPS
    • New animations including ganks and emotes

    New Mount Options
    • New mounts added with specialty purposes for transporting, battle, etc
    • Mount upgrade system for both cosmetic and functional options to customize your steed and make it your own
    • Mount inventory mechanics added to increase hauling capacity

    Free to Play Launch
    • Rise of Agon will officially go to a free to play model with the full launch of Embers of War
    • New cosmetics and convenience options will be added to the online store with no pay to win options of course!
    • Premium Subscription will unlock certain limitations free accounts have such as bank/carrying capacity, advanced crafting skills, house ownership, market limitations and the ability to create a clan to name a few
    • Free players will not be limited in experiencing the game and can go to any zone, use any item, gear or figurine and have the same drop rates from mobs or join any existing clan
    • Game Time Tokens will continue to sell on the Nithron Coin Store. 30 days of Premium Subscription instead of game subscription time will be added.

    Specifics will come out on each of the expansion components as they are being implemented over the next several months through our monthly stream!

    Everything said sounds great.
    Any thoughts on character progression? Like making it worth farming mobs again? Making the 100s of useless spawns useful again?

    Just wanted to pop in for a moment to say this looks great. I'm relieved to see at least one Darkfall is getting themselves together and moving forward with their project. Wish you guys all the best and hope to keep seeing more like this. Don't worry about the past, just keep moving forward. Cheers.

    Hope you guys do a lot of testing events on the test server first before doing the official expansion launch.

    If you guys can pull this off it would be amazing.

    If you can do all this stuff within 6 months I will be fucking amazed!!!

    Also charge for this expansion - make it 19.99 to help with maybe hiring another dev.

    This is your last shot at making this game successful- so do it right.

    You need to add in Squantos armor skins you will make bank from those some.

    Charging another 20bucks for a game that hasn't had enough content in general and has been monthly this whole time would seem kinda... uhh dumb. Lol

    I agree but some type of cash influx could greatly make or break this game. Hopefully they have learned from all their mistakes.

    But seeing how they didn’t do a mass email with this free to play makes me think not.

    Cash infusion sounds nice, but getting the critical mass of people playing the game is more important.

    Personally I prefer the free the first month idea, but free to play might work as well.

    In addition to the Regionalization details outlined in the announcement, we will be improving/updating many other monsters and their loot tables, monster spawn points, and eventually introducing new items and more unique named monsters over time to improve the overall PvM experience for everyone.

    (some of these changes above may be even before the expansion).

    All good. But no plans for character progression? Like making stats go to 130 and making people grind for it?
    Like a year or how ever long ago i started playing Albion. Stopped playing after a month then just logged into to see what its like. Grinding in that game is wayyyy more boring then Darkfall but still just in the clan im in they have 4-7 groups of 9 people going at all times farming fame. On top of that you have to wait on a list to grind lol. And this is a year after the games been out. You guys need somthing like this. When the pvp has died down or theres nothing to do in game i can always go out to work on my character. If you make everything pvp base all the sheep leave and were left with our 50 wolves. This is a RPG and people want to play it like one.
    Even in the state the games in i would log in and grind mobs if there way a point to it..if all i can get is loot from mobs im not gonna farm them. Used to log in for hours just to level shit and when i got jumped or died i never took it to hard cause i could say "well atleast i got .5 str or atleast i raised my 2hander a bit"

    We do plan to look at character progression with a focus on PvE and optional advancement not related to PvP. Adding more long term goals for various trophies and collectibles which can be displayed in your house. Titles and bonuses that are PvE only as well as PvE specs are on the table. For smaller additions we can do them with the community patches.

    We also plan to address the current progression to be smoother for new characters in the expansion. The nectar of the gods way of getting initial stats for example is a bit clunky and spells/skills appear with too much frequency with the current system. These areas will be improved to be cleaner, explained better and happen at a better pace. Magic spells are the best example of the issue as they just show up far too quickly and with too little information.

    That 's a perfect path.for PvE. When that stuff gets looked at closer think about removing front loading. That right there will add character progression again in a way.

    This is why they need UOs fame and karma system. People grinded for fame, you don’t get it automatically with time which is dumb. Killing an illustrious guy felt great haha and having him lose his title. Deaths cause you to lose fame. I loved their system.
