Look forward to this, new combat stuff sounds especially great. Have always wanted more combat diversity in darkfall. Currently theres not really any way to do anything different. 1h weapon users, mages who specialize in 1 school and are nerfed in all others (numbers balanced so its not op) tanky support mages, etc could be some cool options. Progression could definitely use a bit of work but I'm not 100% sure the best way to do it. Because open pvp ruins progression, nobody ever wants to be a gimped character. So having extremely fast combat gains with the nectar and stuff is very good, people cant quit and say its because they cant compete character wise. But I think crafting gains are too high. It devalues crafters. Not that I want dnd crafter mains and stuff. But currently anyone cant get to at least r50 weapons and stuff extremely quickly. Which almost feels a bit too easy and un rewarding. Me and my friend made new characters on like friday and haven't even grinded that much and are already able to make r50 weps, FP armor, bone, blackbolts, and r50 bows. Ya maybe the point was that the real grind is in getting the high tier stuff but new players should still at least kinda use the lower end stuff first. But currently scale banded r30 weps and stuff are dead content. You can just skip them if you know how fast crafting gains are. Also the skill curves are weird. r0 needed to make 100 wood in bows, but was a lot of bows. r10 was 100 wood in bows (less bows total). r30 I had to make a good amount and they start to at least use resources. R40 I literally made 8 or 10 bows and boom 25 mastery. Ya they start to actually cost stuff but still they are at least usable for pve and stuff. Getting to mastery and stuff should be a little more effort. Maybe not as bad as on release but at least on release when I power grinded to be able to make plate I was satisfied and being able to craft for people was worth it because most people couldnt craft.
HAI ZANDER! They already said all of their changes are meant for a fully populated server, so the chances of a smaller map are slim. Also, they said they have no plans for any kind of wipe. Even if they did a wipe, gear and character grind is so easy that anyone can start a new character and catch up in a few days...
No one believes this. At all. This literally looks like you took a list of community input and slapped it together. The biggest indicator is this: Combat Diversity A variety of new specialisation choices that will give more options and combinations to try for melee, archery and magic added to the existing specialisation system New relic items to help compliment your playstyle with unique bonuses and drawbacks to push interesting and niche playstyles New tailoring mastery skill with advanced leather, bone and cloth armors Specialty Armour options for advanced metal, leather, bone and robes to give more options than just protections. Redesigned transmute system incorporating essences and new effects on spells and skills into elemental weapons and armor Community involvement on combat features will be included before implementation So we get, specializations, relics, specialty armours, and transmuted items? This is so much convolution alone, it's either setting yourself up for failure or a lie. I'll believe this when I see it, there is no capacity for faith here anymore.
The problem with a wipe is if they dont fix the issues that caused a bad economy it will just get bad again repeat. And they cant keep wiping people will stop coming back if they are just going to get wiped again. Some people put a lot of time and effort into their stuff, getting it all wiped would prob make a few people perma quit. My bank suxs so it doesnt matter to me but like I wouldnt want to play and grind stuff as much if I knew it would just get wiped. Problem #2 with wipes. But if they fixed lots of stuff with the economy and it was super good for the pop it could be worth it.
The ONLY way this expansion plan has even a chance of working is with a full item/resource wipe at bare minimum Personally a full wipe including characters outside of names/titles/purchased cosmetics makes the most sense as at least some form of character progression should probably be brought back for many obvious reasons I'd like to see time locked/ soft capped daily/weekly progression for both crafting and characters A wipe/relaunch WILL work initially to bring back former and new players/clans, after that its up to BPG to retain them (hence moderate character grind being brought back to give them some lead time before people finish and get bored) Granted it's possibly best for BPG to NOT confirm the wipe until much closer to launch I'd donate, but I'm extremely skeptical that BPG will make the right decisions --- Post updated --- This is implied by everyone I have seen suggesting said wipe --- Post updated --- +1 I'll return day 1 and make a clan with my bros ONLY if wipe/proper relaunch happens Otherwise BPG will have to literally get 2,500 concurrent for like a month for me to even consider log back in
why wipe? why should i have to re-grind the gear and gold i grinded for? because i finally get a chance to use it with a new content patch? but u kids want a wipe cuz ur poor and want even playing-grounds? lul.
I am curious for the people who said only a wipe would get them back: If they firmly committed to NOT wiping, is there any way they could design this to still get you to play? It is, in my opinion, crazy to expect the game to wipe every time a major content patch comes out, just for the benefit of the people who aren't actively playing. You can't expect people to commit to building anything serious in this game if there is a chance the devs will decide to wipe and start over. And you can't expect that this patch will be the one that gets it right and gets everyone who tries it out to stay. The truth is there aren't hordes of full loot pvp gamers waiting outside the gates for the territory control patch to drop, at which point they will come streaming in on launch and start playing. No one is waiting around for Darkfall. Its just you, me, and at best a couple thousand of the minuscule population of Darkfall circa 2010-2012. If you want those new people to play, and we likely need them to make the server populated enough, you have to improve the game on a regular enough pace and generate interest in the game over the long term. No Darkfall launch survives the launch window without losing 75% of the population and this freemium one isn't going to be different. The people who will make Darkfall successful long term aren't the people who join on freemium launch day, or day 2 or 10 or even 365. It has to be a build up. If the hardcore Darkfall fans won't give the game a chance without a wipe, why would anyone else? There have to be systems in place such that people who join late still feel like they can make an impact or enjoy themselves. Otherwise this game is dead in the water. Wiping will achieve nothing.
Yeah this kind of a system is something we discussed to be requirements for certain titles. We'll circle back to it if and when we get time. Adding in the fame collection is easy and TJ could probably whip it up in an hour but a full system of use for it will take some design thought to plan out and likely a few days at least to build and do initial testing on.
Wealth is easy as shit to acquire in this game for anyone that has experience in it. Noobs/Casuals won't put in the time to go through the strifes of war just to acquire a foothold, holding in the world, they just won't play. Get over yourself.
Yeah, MMO casuals sure are likely to grind in a game which had a wipe. /sarcasm Wipe speculation alone did massive damage to DFO playerbase. Besides, with platinium and new materials and whatnot, a sort-of soft-wipe is coming, by the looks of it. Wipes work in games with no progression. And even then after wipe/ladder reset/whateveryoucallit, you generally calibrate from where you finished the last season.
Yeah, MMO casuals sure are likely to play a game where everyone else already has a huge bank, developed character, and own all the cities. /sarcasm
I lvled bow crafting last night from 0 to R60's in about 30 mins, that includes the few trips to gather the wood. The only thing a new player has disadvantage of is 100-120 stats and vet skill power gaps. There isn't much gap to catch up gear/bank wise IMO.
I think we have to wait 1 year for the expansion i suggest you to revert the combat change whit some fix : 5-10 sec cd for light battlespike more cd for eyeroot and istant pungent mist make selfbuff passive skills more cd for debuff nerf a bit buff other nerf a bit back damage increase a bit magic defense of metal increase a bit arrow damage all r 90 same cd needles and magma same cd and casting time you can ask that to the player base please?
