Albion doesn't even know df exists.
We know that, but there are a lot of df players playing it now.
People talking about portal chambers like they're going to save the game in this thread clearly have no idea why people are leaving.
If anything portal chambers would make more people leave the game because instead of getting hit every 2 hours by people living in your local area you'd end up getting hit every 30 minutes by people based all over the map.
And yes that's exactly what happened when Av brought in portal chambers. If you can't remember that you were probably one of the clans who largely benefited from portal chambers by being able to farm other players for gear in every corner of the map with little effort, whilst you cried zerg whilst dropping 350 hp noobs who could barely scratch you in 5 seconds.
For every bored vet that leaves because they grinded their toon like crazy from launch until they were maxed and has "nothing left to do" because they're too lazy to travel more than 15 minutes for PvP there's probably 10 people who went "yeah can't be bothered with this game, takes too long to get anywhere"... and they weren't talking about travel times.
Armor dyes and being able to place vendors outside of houses will save darkfall.
I hope you have to grind solo for 2 months for a vendor in the new patch like you have to now for a cottage that you can't place anyways. THAT will save darkfall. More tedious grind plox.
if it takes you two months to farm the gold to buy the mats for a cottage... darkfall isnt the game for you.
So you are saying people that wear grown up pants and have grown up responsibilities with their grown up family should leave the already dwindling darkfall population? Well... you truly are a special kind of stupid, aren't You?
I have said this from early on, we need to retain the blue players living in NPC cities for the game to thrive. When new players zone into ghost towns for the first time it makes the game look dead. The lives of these players is far too hard.
Yep bit I'm doubtful. The game is almost completely the same as it was when it first released years ago, and died. Expecting any serious content added, like is what's needed is likely a pipe dream. They have been working on it for a year now or something close.
Eh I dropped a Villa almost 3 weeks ago. It takes no where near 2 months.
To be fair, this is all part of the plan they outlined but with a delay due to the server change. The next few months will be vital.
they needed months to deliver a simple new sword 3d model (founder's blade) and your seriously think they will be able to release any kind of real content in less than years ? their team is just way too small, i see people asking for arena, i hate arenas but its not the point, months for a new sword skin so how much time for an arena ? until now all changes made to the game are more modders work than real developpers. i guess they see changes made to housing as content, tedious grind is their content.
to be fair its expected that every mmo, even triple A ones drop 50% of their population after the initial month and another 20-30% after the 2nd month nowadays. thats just how it is with modern generation of game hoppers. thing is 20 years ago there was an mmo launch like once eery 2-3 years. nowadays theres like a major mmo launch every 1-2 months so ppl just consume everything they can get their hands on. the difference is triple A titles can drop 80% of their launch population and still have hundred times+++ the playerbase darkfall had on launch day. BPG hasnt done better or worse than any other company before but in a niche game like darkfall every player counts so much more.
Except bpg didn't do anything but re release an already "finished" product. They have made a few number changes, but that is literally it. And it has taken them a year to do it lol.
well no iteration of darkfall was ever a finished product but yes i agree the pace at which they are going and the roadmap for whats to come in the next 3 months is extremely underwhelming. they literally need to double or triple the size of their current team to get things done way faster. as with every other business you need to take risks and invest huge amounts of money so you can make huge amounts of money.
You don't really know what they inherited though. Wrapping your head around someone elses code and fully understanding it isn't a small undertaking, especially if the original author never bothered to do things like create class descriptions, comment code, document anything, etc.
i can 100% guarantee you that AV did all of those. to what level of professionalism however is a different question. pretty sure the problem is more of a AV´s coders were shit tiers that didnt know about common programming standards and how to solve specific problems type of thing. client authorative movement and item placement in your bank beeing stored locally are solid indications for that. no programmer that is worth anything would ever let that happen. clients in mmos are meant to be the most passive thing you can possibly imagine. it sends data to the server and the serer gives its ok(authorization) and sends it back and the client reacts accordingly. never the other way around ever ... for anything. anything that is client authoritive is just an invitation to players to fuck with it which is why you never do that ever. thats basic knowledge AV appearantly never had so you can only imagine what kind of mess they created in other areas of the code.
the design's of implementation of stuff that has been added is simply broken @ this core.
See the staff patch:
Instead making serveral staff the same speed and dmg and make their mats drop in different locations in the world; we have the same shit where everyone is using blackbolts.. the only thing what is changed is the mats that are needed --> more grind
See the cooking patch:
very basic materials like eggs or onions are the rares in the game? logical thinking @ this best
Bear made a very long post about spells/skills what we use and what should be removed. they are still ingame
Seletine golem is still killable with 40 mandrake; does this seems correct?
Building upon on the core of dfo? what have been done on this part? nothing? no new specialistations nothing.
Tasks: which imo should have been implemented in the beginning not afterwards.. because of this many new players were bored when completing the goblins tasks
Several mats are simply boring to farm.. sitting @ a spawn while you 1 hit a mob because your char i developed skinning the mob for 1 item.. does this for works?
All i can say right now is: and seeing what is going on from beta to now.. this project aint going anywhere.
Ive spoken to serveral people of BPG and most are responding with : yes we have plans.. that is currently on the list, or i speak to the so called "design team " ; responses
The most basic sollutions regarding above problems are mostly XML changes.. and it will benefit more then your freeplacement vendors.
fix the basic shit first then work on the more complicated stuff
A few of you made great points. Since coming back, I have noticed a few things I would like to see changed-
1.Smaller map- I enjoyed that in UW as it was easier to go raid, run into people etc.
2.Portal chambers that you knew where you were going and making them hot spots again
3.More independent things & group activities to do- Trade routes and things like this
4. System messages back in cities. There was nothing like recalling back into your city to kill enemies as a guild or by yourself. Why would anyone want to just hang out in their city just to wait for people to come?
Just my 2 cents!
Maybe they should make a safe zone for new people. A safe zone limited, where other people can't attack you but where mobs, cities and resources where limited.
I Started with two friends about 4 months ago and we dindt know anything about darkfall. We used to die like 3-2 times a day and being at the started human zone... If to these facts we add the hard work you have to do to skill up your character, it's logical that most people quit the game. We were 3 and now we are just 2 playing, cause one quit because his alignment decreased when other people came to kill us. Not have any sense if one that is in your party hit you he could lose alignment. Yes, I know there is a message, but when you are newbie you dont realize what is that. He couldn't even bind to cities and ofc he ragequit.
