I guess well have to agree to disagree, on this ftp sucks but it can help bring in players but we live in a super liberal America and super cheap without a sub based system combined with restrictions BPG wont make enough money for good continued development
Don't worry guys I can single handly keep BPG going for a while. people are buying the hell out of tokens. Lol
f2p is a bad idea. would take too much effort to make so many customization options to buy, such as dyes, masks, etc. etc. and the freemium thing with restrictions on free players is a nonsense idea imho, since kids will exploit 'alts' all day long in one way or another.
F2p is a great idea. Worked for runescape. Works for WoW. Works for a ton of other games that are terrible by comparison... Don't restrict anything though, just make things more tedious. That's a successful f2p model. Any number of suggestions would work... Something as small as not having your Skinner equipped automatically, all the way to something as large as not being able to join a clan at all (or maybe a clan made by subscribers). The devs are capable and it'd be great to see this model...
negative, this statement has already been proven wrong since the launch of the game has seen more than 300 for likely as many or more months as it hasn't.
The big problem of f2p is to fill the world of spies in all the hotsopt pvp scattered around the world. Villages will be filled with spies, for example.
One idea for a marketable store product that I think would work well for RoA would be alternate spell skins. Allow players to purchase spell skins that would change the appearance, and/or sound effects of certain spells. I can imagine all sorts of neat alternate audio, and visual effects for DF spells. Multiple looks for lighting bolts, fire balls, shards, impale, arcane bolts, etc. Maybe even offer visual effects for certain buff spells to let people bling their characters with iron skin, or Stone skin, or glowing fire shields, etc... Sell them cheap- .25, .50 cents each. Offer package deals with themed effects too. If the product sells well, it could also become an easy way to add more new effects in the future.
cant change spells knowing what someone is casting is a major factor when fighting if you alter that you alter the game and not in a positive way.
Freemium is an excellent idea. Tried Path of Exile and liked their idea of charging for different bank features and then tons of cosmetics. I see hundreds of people rolling around in fluff items costing thousands of dollars. Even myself after playing only for a couple months paid a couple hundred dollars on just features. A similar idea would be creating a feature that allows you to select a gear set (Thanks Straws?). You choose all the exact items and you could click a button and bam it puts every item you picked into a bag. Charge five bucks per person to use that feature. I am pretty sure if I knew the coding to this dinosaur it would take me a day to completely make it. (I am 100% positive I could do it now but, it would take me a month with ahk) Sorry, baked and babbling!
Bet you could sell Fully Marked Rune Books (1 Rune per Continent) and Portal Shards on the store and that is not P2W more of a convenience thing.
Allow players to purchase spell skins.... God forbid that a player might have use some brain power to recognize a spell, and decide whether or not to let the blue balls looking version of the shards spell smash him the face, or the broken glass looking version of the shards spell smash him in the face. Or else, do what they normally do regardless of what the spell is- try to dodge, or block.
Mostly correct, with a couple of notable exceptions. All basic raw materials can be bought, and sold in the auction house by F2P accounts. Those mats will craft high end weapons, and armor. Even noob zone mats are valuable to high end crafts. Many crafted weapons, and armor, and some low end drop items can also be purchased on the auction house by F2P. Also dyes can be bought, and some food items. And a few other types of items can be purchased by F2P.
