In this patch we've changed Chaos Binstones to Glyphs, which has several implications, this change is closely linked to the respawn option we're adding so they can be discussed in the same context

To fully understand what this change represents we need to break down several things

    Glyphs -
You can mark runebook locations to glyphs, however you can no longer bind to a glyph

Chaos city bindstones should remain the same as they always were.

    Nearest Respawn Option

When a player is incapacitated they have the option to go to their bindstone, closest spawnpoint, or their house if they are bound to one.

Closest spawn picks the closest spawn the player is allowed to bind to including; glyphs, npc cities, and their own clan cities. The bindstone they are currently bound to is NOT included in the "Closest" option so if you are being bindcamped at your real spawn point, you can choose "closest" to get away.

This respawn option is useful for PvE deaths, or when grouping far away from other respawn options as it will let players get back to continue what they were doing.

    Potential Issues
We are aware and have discussed internally the scenarios that could happen with regard to PvP. The respawn option plays an instrumental role in fixing bindcamping, however we need more feedback to see how it will affect PvP encounters in different scenarios.

We're also aware that changing bindstones to glyphs will be frustrating for some players who bind to them regularly. Share your thoughts on these as we may have missed key points in the OP

This thread is specifically for Glyph and Respawn related changes, other threads will be setup for the other parts of the patch.

These changes did not require much development as they are now, but are significant in how they change day to day gameplay.

We want to be able to place more locations for runebooks and for that we need to remove the ability to bind to them. The cost of porting somewhere is an important factor, which helps to self regulate (supply and demand). We want to keep the number of Chaos Bindstones where players can bind at limited, and doing it this way we do not need to reset runebooks again to continue.

Respawn change is necessary to address bindcamping in cases where a player with no house could be indefinitely prevented from playing. There is an advantage in being able to keep a bind location and still be able to respawn near where you die, which offsets losing the ability to bind to the old Chaos Bindstones (now Glyphs).

In terms of PVP, the only difference this will bring is the option to naked rush without risking a bindstone camp. This falls into the naked rushers favour, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Then again it does remove the "spawn at house, recall for free back to fight" which could even it out. It also gives an easy out for defenders in sieges since, as much as a pain in the ass getting bindcamped was, it was a valid tactic in sieges to prempitvely bindcamp part of a siege force to try and limit the zerg potential.

My guess is naked spawn scouting is going to be even more of a thing, and it will create some interesting scenarios for sieges and siege preps. Most likely a necessary evil in terms of tedium reduction when dying out in the world.

I was extremely critical when you guys first brought this up but this seems to be a step in the right direction.

Please make sure that the Glyphs will be visable on the world map at any distance. The current Chaos Stones only appear when you get near them on the ingame map (I think this is due to the differnce between world map and mini map options). This will allow people to travel to them to add them to their runebook. I am currently using a old out of game map to find the Chaos Stones to do this.
