Seriously though. Afk swimming, Mining, Macroing. The shear amount of time it took to level up melee mastery was the fix. You had a reason to farm shitty mobs because the ultimate goal was the weapon mastery etc. Complain about it if you like. Without the grind.... The community realized there was nothing to do. Also you made player owned cities which should be the games most valuable asset complete trash. GIMME MAH GRIND BACK. Anything we can do semi afk while we take care of our families. The vast majority of us are over 30...True facts.
Q4 mats are selling for up to 500 gp a piece, but cities right next to multiple Q4 spawns are worthless apparently? Go fishing. With crafting queue you can literally queue up tonnes of things and go afk and craft for longer than you could in the past.
Yup, we need long term character progression to keep people playing. We have tons of other MMOs to learn from. I don't get why the team sees the current population and isn't able to add two and two together.
You liked the grind in Darkfall 2009? That makes you .0001% of players that played the game. An MMO needs continual progression and long term goals but swimming, mining, and mount kicking wasn't it. It wasn't much better this time around either. It was just a lot of dotting i's and crossing t's before you could even start competing. Normal human beings aren't doing that. You can have a grind but it needs to be better. A lot better.
Actually yeah, most people enjoyed the progression itself, the problem was you HAD to get through it to be able to compete. Other games get around this by having character levels and restricting high level characters from slaughtering lower ones. If this game had that, you wouldn't feel the massive pressure to grind and you could actually enjoy progression.

Most people don't enjoy the grind. They enjoy working towards a goal (character progression) and the associated "content" which came from having a grind. The old grind is what kept the game alive (regardless of it running a lot of people off). The old grind required you go to monster spawns and grind grind grind and farm farm farm constantly so you could progress your character. This is the one thing to do in Darkfall - hunt other players. Like it or not, there is absolutely nothing to do besides pvp in this game at the moment and when characters are maxed no one is farming (unless you enjoy single-player games or wealth-building). Progression in Darkfall has been completely removed which is the heart and soul of any MMO if you ask me. We need something to feel like we're making progress. The only thing left to do is fight other people for no reason other than the combat is skillful and competitive.
Darkfall Online's grind was basically meant to be specialisation by massive grind. Everyone should have specialised in one or two things because grinding up any individual skill took so long. But people circumvented the grind by AFK macroing, bloodwalling and exploiting. Hardly anyone got banned for it. The number of people I reported for AFK macroing was insane. Next night, I'd jump into their city, find them doing it again, report them again, wait a while, gank them for regs, and do it again the next night. Original game concept also had skill decay. Either use it it lose it. This would've created a game where, at most, everyone had 2 to 3 major skills plus a few minor skills. You'd have people with Lesser Magic, Greater Magic, Greatsword, Archery - and that's it. Then there'd be people with Lesser Magic, Greater Magic, Fire Magic, Earth Magic, and that's it. There would be no one with Eye Rot, and Wall of Force at a high level for example. Having a massive grind, no skill cap, no skill decay, and massive character gap (like one person hitting for 17 damage and the other hitting for 35 with the same weapon, which was the case in DFO), is a recipe for disaster. Sure, it could work in some games where there's no full-loot and PvP is consensual, but not in Darkfall. Returning to the long grind without either addressing the character gap or a skill cap would not do the game well.
I sort of agree and disagree, the content is still there, I and my friends are constantly farming mobs for gold and enchanting mats to keep up with the gear loss and reagent costs for duelling to improve. Unless your making more bags than your losing and with the non existent trading market I don't see how your not.
You don't need a city next to Q4 spawns to farm Q4 spawns, and now with these runebooks, you never will. Shoutouts to suggestions that helped kill conquest in the conquest game.
I laughed when i sa " selling" ..... I logged on 2-3 days ago to pay my house tax and transfer my house to a buddy cause my sub ends next week i was online for 10 min just paying the taxes and transfering the house ( incase some day this game is worth coming back to ) In that 10 min I sa not 1 person speak in chat not 1 spam in trade chat and when i asked if anyone else was actually alive in the game i got 1 response......So whos trading/selling.....

But Darkfall players don't seem to understand well established economic theories that have existed for 200 years. The opportunity costs of travelling to farm a Q4 mat on the other side of the map is not farming a Q4 mat right next to you, faster and more efficiently. Runebooks will reduce comparative advantage, but definitely not eliminate it.
Basically they trashes our characters and stole 40+ hours of our lives. All because shitbois spam forums to hurt games and communities. This is the reason UW failed. Remember when they aged all of our gear because shitbois spammed the forums about not having gear? 100% the most retarded crap any persistent game can do.
