I know that RoA and New Dawn are different versions of DF but realistically the main factor is going to be eu/us hosting

If that is true, and most players want to live closer to their servers.. I've noticed what I think are a lot of EU players

Will the loss of these players hit the population hard? What can be done to prevent it?

There is a lot of eu players now granted new dawn is not released.. With the direction of the game being fairly different than New dawn and the fact the location ROA server is pretty decent for a global server I don't think we have much to worry about.

Stable servers. If we can push the ping a little bit further (if something like that is possible. I am no networking guy) and then keep it stable, the current is good enough for me as Swede. It will all come down to content in the end. Which game provides the better experience. Ping is part of this "experience" so RoA will take a hit. Hopefully there will be enough people joining in by time.

I had 0 ping at the end in beta. I think bgp is developing a new technology that will allow players around the world to have instant transmission of data.

Last I checked New Dawn is trying to host it's server on east coast USA for launch anyways.

Even if it doesn't i'm literally not worried at all. RoA is a superior game with a better team.

    I'll play both, defo RoA.

Also surmising about this possible future is not really worthwhile as a lot can change quickly. If people enjoy then they will stay.

    This was a good laugh.

Anyways, the EU players that were playing DnD inDev are only here because it's a new darkfall launch and there's always population to have fun with.

Once DnD launches you can count on them all leaving back to yet another darkfall launch.

I'm on the west coast of the US and have accounts for both games. My gameplay is much smoother at 180 ping on DnD than at 90 ping on RoA beta (won't even mention how it is right now because it seems all alfar I talk to are having trouble). Couple that with the Special Olympics paced casting and weapon swaps on RoA and I'm easily sold back to DnD

Are you RoA's official server communications provider or something?

As far as I know, I didn't do any generalization in here. You did.

What a surprise. People actively posting on the dnd forums are saying they will play dnd. I never would have guessed :S

Of course it would hurt, if the stats BPG produced on why the server location was chosen to be the US are still holding, then one third of the people you see are European.

That said, as a European with a stable 80'ish ping in ROA, New Dawn would have to offer me a fantastic ping to an EU based server, with a strong population and even easier leveling to tempt me to grind up a 3rd DF character.

Of course all bets are off if large sieges are a slideshow for me or ROA cannot sustain a decent active population during my core playing hours.

Tbh I am having a blast in ROA, its a lot of fun. And thats coming from a DND fan.
But if they dont optimize their client then I ll be playing DND for sure. It is by far more stable, no input lags etc.. So overall more enjoyable. But I believe a New Dawn Launch is still in the distant future, maybe BPG can pull of some optimization too and make the client as crisp as DNDs?

I'd say the balls in BPG's court. ND prob isnt out for at least a couple months. That gives BPG time to prove it can keep the game afloat via content updates. In the long run, most ppl will naturally migrate to the 'non-stale' version of DF.

All I have to say is DnD has no recall/local banking. Who in their right mind would move to that?

    Yet you seemed surprised. :)

Who in their mind would play a thousand of other games without recall?
