If you were trying to get a friend who has never played Darkfall interested in playing, how would you describe it to them?
Open PVP, Full Loot, No Classes, Challenging PVE, City/Hamlet capturing, Naval Warfare, Housing, Quests, Alot of different spells & skills to choose between. There must be something to like from the things mentioned above that wakes interest, if not ... your friend is stupid and you should probobly look for new friends.
I say its like CS but with a World of Warcraft theme. Spawn, get shit from bank, aim and shoot at stuff, win and take stuff or lose and do it all over again.
In Darkfall most things you had to really work for which made any and all accomplishments that much more rewarding. Farming some mobs for an hour and banking that loot? Rewarding as hell.
I would say it's what Elder Scrolls Online should've been. Virtually everyone was disappointed by that game, and the Elder Scrolls series is so popular it could spark a huge wave of interest in Darkfall.
Everyone expected ESO to be like a Skyrim Online which is more to what Darkfall has to offer. So yeah, with proper advertising they could generate a large wave of interest. People love sandbox, we just have to make sure we get the game to a level where it can draw in new players and retain them.
The game would need to be far more accessible for the mainstream to really take an interest. When I say accessible, I don't mean DF:UW accessible. I mean when entering the game, it's daunting as fuck, and people are used to having their hands held in every other game. They need something that explains to them what is going on, explains how to progress and move forward. Something that removes the 'So, what now?' feeling people will have. Also, the UI needs a complete redesign - and the macros/scripting stuff needs to be addressed. There needs to be more consequences for attacking blue players, to promote Red vs Blue pvp. I feel like this game is like Eve in the way that it's very hard to penetrate for your average gamer. Anything that can be done to ease that experience would help massively. An organic way to make ganks on Blue players less attractive would help the new player experience hugely. One of the huge dynamics this game is missing is anti-pk guilds, who hunt reds.
A true open-world, full loot, sandbox. Limited framework allowing for maximum freedom, enabling players to shape the world they live in. Because of this high amount of freedom that players possess, every individual has the power to change the course of the entire game through political prestige, combat mastery, leadership qualities, crafting proficiency and/or entrepreneurial ability. Agon is a living, breathing world that is not affected as much by the content of the game than it is by the players.
