Average of 295ms from Perth, Australia. Sounds about what I got to the Chicago server in DFO. With a 3rd party tool (I used Lowerping back then) that will hopefully come down to about 275-280. I know that sounds terrible, and it is, but it is what I had back in DFO anyway so I can deal with that.
59ms for me in South Florida. Edit: Using Battleping I can go down to 54ms. Battleping to a Chicago server I get around 57, otherwise without it it's 60-70. Edit #2: Overall Battleping really doesn't do much for me even to EU countries. I dunno how people can pay for these programs =\
Ramon has been testing these from the Netherlands, ping zapper helped him a bit so far. Battle ping won't work for us right now because they specifically look for the DFO client which we've modified a bit to get running. Hopefully we can get them on board with the game because it seemed they were pretty good according to reviews I've read up on. More details on this once we can get the servers fully ready in release mode. Plus note is it seems the ping difference in game compared to ping tests is negligible so far! We'll get an average once we have some more testing but remember this disclaimer: It is a very big grey area with lots of external factors affecting it! -Andrew
Or BPG could setup a house in NY where players can meet up irl, play with great ping, and if Darkfall: Rise of Agon takes off bigtime... Start a tv reality show in that house... Similar things have been done for League of Legend teams and it promotes the game.
Anyone else got Comcast on the east coast that can toss up a traceroute to the test IP? ROA's network provider peering with Comcast isn't great right now. Geolocation databases say this IP is in Piscataway NJ, not NYC. There's no way my ping from central NJ to NYC is over 30ms. I've got servers in 111 8th Ave that ping at 12ms and I'm 5 miles from Piscataway... Even routing from where I am to NYC and back to Piscataway is not 30ms. root@aegis:~ # traceroute -w 2 206.221.176.194 traceroute to 206.221.176.194 (206.221.176.194), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 96.120.75.17 (96.120.75.17) 8.354 ms 8.828 ms 8.119 ms 2 68.86.157.113 (68.86.157.113) 7.592 ms 8.083 ms 8.095 ms 3 be-4-ar03.plainfield.nj.panjde.comcast.net (68.85.62.9) 10.586 ms 10.889 ms 10.066 ms 4 be-33659-cr02.newyork.ny.ibone.comcast.net (68.86.90.21) 11.657 ms 13.887 ms 12.889 ms 5 he-0-12-0-0-pe02.111eighthave.ny.ibone.comcast.net (68.86.87.170) 11.409 ms 12.103 ms 11.397 ms 6 50.242.151.70 (50.242.151.70) 39.624 ms 39.727 ms 39.175 ms 7 ae-0.choopa.nycmny01.us.bb.gin.ntt.net (128.241.2.202) 30.082 ms 31.111 ms 31.301 ms 8 * * * 9 ethernet1-2-2-c7-20-b2-1-sa.pnj1.choopa.net (108.61.92.190) 33.512 ms 33.476 ms 44.407 ms 10 nyc-metro-speedtest (206.221.176.194) 33.452 ms 35.314 ms 35.112 ms
Yes when it should be 10 It's not so much the 30ms as the variability and the fact that my ping to the UW server in Chicago is the same as to ROA's test IP. That's terrible considering whichever "NYC" location it actually is I'm 5-10 miles from. Either their net provider has bad peering or they're not a well run network. That's bad for everyone. edit: Maybe I should play from work 2.1 milliseconds from there. Looks like crappy peering for Comcast folks.
these services are kind of a gimmick.... the only time these would be useful is if your ISP is doing something very weird with the way you're being routed to the game server. Depending on where you're connecting to their VPN service, most of the time won't make a difference or could actually make your connection worse based on the route you take to get the battleping or whatever else there is. If the service is located in lets say..... San Francisco CA and it makes a direct VPN tunnel to the game server located in Chicago.... then it may reduce ping slightly depending on if the service isn't having any network issues themselves. The path the VPN tunnel takes could be just as screwed up as your isp routing your connection to the game server... for most people, it's a placebo.
After looking at https://forums.darkfallriseofagon.com/threads/more-ping-tests-required.260/ this thread I think the one you choose was my worst possible choice
Is it only me or has the ping to 206.221.176.194 gone up by alot ? I had a average of 89-90ping before now it is up at 120-130.
Don't worry so much about the test ip's , the one we've went with has none of the issues mentioned. My ping has went down to around 82 from Ireland and I believe Ramon is around 90 from NL. UK should be even less in the 70's most likely.
You went with the worst least stable garbanzo server --- Post updated --- Alot of it is placebo its not like 5 less ping or slihtly more stable actually affects your game much. But it depends alot I got super stable and 10-15 less ping when using it in DFUW
i doubt any latency reducer for europe players will have any effect whatsoever.. The whole playerbase of europe goes through the same cable.. from london to new york everyone has the same distance to travel to new york ( except in europe itself) The only thing eu players can do is reducing hopping to london.. waiste of time and efforts with no or minimal gain
Yes, but as always we will have to wait until you can log into the server to be sure. When i played on IPY or AnCorp (UO Shards if i must still mention..) those were based in NY as well and my ping wasnt that great (from Switzerland). But when i used Lowerping, i didnt gained much in term of ping but still my game was runnig really much "smoother" and i feel the lag was reduced in that way. Playing there without it was an awfull experience so in my case it does worked in some way... On most of their IP posted here, i ping around 100ms, wich isnt great but not that bad and pretty much playable. Just have to wait for a real test now
Latency Reducers have a big effect to minimize the route needed. @Ramon Wolfs will be posting his findings soon, he managed to get his ping down by 20 using PingZapper.
