Hello. I had a dream about Darkfall recently and that made me get nostalgic feelings. Which took me here.

    Is there anyone out there?

around 30 people or less on their disco, they basically ruined the game when they catered to the instamax pvp crowd, game is all but done, between the ui changes, crafting/harvesting changes and total removal of the grind i don't see how this game is still even being played. i supported this team from the start until they started removing everything that was great about DF. at this rate, i wish UW were still alive, at least the game had a semblance of a grind and need for crafters etc. have fun with it.

on the bright side you can pretty much walk the entire map without having to worry about being ganked along the way.

It's still alot of fun, darkfall's gameplay is still mostly there, just about 95% of the grind is gone, but i'm having fun questing and farming mats while getting maxxed out. I also found some very nice and helpful people, this is possible if you also have the capability to be nice.

Always amazes me how these types of games attract the worlds most negative nancy's who just want to see it disappear, exact same thing going on with that MO2 launch right now. I feel sorry for these people who apparently have it so shit, they can't imagine someone else having fun.

Yes it's different, but Darkfall is still fun

They nerfed the grind a bit too much; the grind is really the only content the game had/has and RoA didn't add any new content to supplement the game. In fact, they removed large portions and some that were in the game for balance/new player retention reasons like Race wars.

I don't know anyone who complained about being able to afk nodes, but it was one of the relaxing aspects the game had and one of the few things you could afk and watch a movie. They should have kept the old system in but added a mini-game for quicker harvesting chances.

There is nothing negative about telling the truth...there is a reason why this game has been dead for years, and a reason why Mortal online 2 is getting shit on(The servers are fucked and copy-paste code that still has the same bugs like node lines from Mo1). Players are tired of shit especially since games have been increasingly shittier and shitter with EA, crowdfunding failures like Crowfall, scams like Star Citizen, Camelot unchained, or just money grab turds like New world. People want quality for their money.

i agree that the grind nerf is too much, and i also miss semi-afking nodes, but regardless of some of these changes darkfalls core gameplay is still fun and unique. It'll never be like it was with the original but that goes for every mmo with classic/private servers. I also don't expect revolutionizing new content, BPG doesn't have same resources/devteam AV had when making the game. a healthy population (with some more grind) is enough to make this game shine again i believe.

I'd agree if their problems weren't self inflicted.

Holdings - No reason to have holdings/monsters outside of a few spots. Upkeep, while a good idea was implemented terribly and made half the holdings empty. Also im not gonna give them sympathy for their stubbornness on portal chambers not being in the game for like a year plus because they thought their terrible wilderness portal system would be fine. It was terrible for holding value early. I'd like to see them revamp the wild portals tbh. Its a great idea but the portals are dog.

Monsters/PvE - The mob loot revamp made multiple hotspots now ass. Which is amazing considering they have TONS of new items. Somehow they nuked loads of hotspots. Portal shards - worthless. Runestones are much less valuable now, 7k mobs are shells of what they used to be. Champions are a cool idea but could use a little more to them imo.

Villages - Obviously too much these days. Hopefully they are tuned down on release. Housing was a pretty cool change tho TBH.

Crafting - Probably the only thing that stayed the same or improved. I love the scroll system and we never really saw how the new rare timber/cloth works on a fresh economy so it could be good or bad. Harvesting like ppl say in this thread also took a turn for the worst. I liked the longer harvesting times to chill/afk and have a bit of a braindead activity. I also miss having the ability to get rare ore from iron ore nodes. It should probably be a little more rare but it was a cool dopamine hit when it happened.

Leveling - Too fast. It was perfect IMO on scroll release patch. The skill gains were just good enough and scrolls made it feel perfect. I loved it. Now its obviously too fast but that should be obviously toned down on a relaunch. Although before the buff it was still too fast IMHO.

Combat - Obviously the elephant in the room. Somehow this got touched on when it was perfectly fine. I will say screen shake being removed was one of the only combat changes needed and it was a good one.

Perhaps their best change though is removal of scripts being needed and making stuff easy af to keybind lol

You are right RoA right now is a bit of a mixed bag with ideas that didn't work out, and some QoL changes that work well. I'm hoping that for the steam release some of the controversial changes that don't work as intended are reverted to a more vanilla state, together with the QoL that the people do like, i think theres good potential on steam.

    for the rest i agree.
just on teleporting/portals, i firmly believe in the original design philosophy that this shouldn't be as easy or convenient as it is now. But i understand why it's here, Agon is very big esp. considering the current playerbase. But to me the traveling and requiring some effort to be able to port added so much to the immersion of being in a persistent world. But this is more personal cos i love traveling in agon i think its beautiful. I know it won't be like the original again, but maybe a middle ground would be nice for everyone. portal shards being worthless and the current wilderness portals is/are not good. convenience is a double edged sword, and ppl didnt love darkfall for its conveniences.

    (bonus rant:
heck i miss buying spells/abilities too, a bit too much is handed out now. EVEN in WoW you had to buy your abilities/spells from the trainer, this kind of convenience doesnt add to the new player experience it just retracts from immersion, sense of progression, (early game) choice, and the game being an RPG in general, you should have to earn and choose what you want it shouldnt all be handed out. imho the most important thing the new player experience needs are weapon wheel/keybind presets, without that hurdle theyll get to enjoy combat much better/faster)
