Are you comparing a free to play game that can be played on PC, consoles, tablets, phones and is owned by a company in a country that has a government representative in every "privately" owned company that also is the largest population in the world

    VS.

A indie 2009 game part of the smallest market share genre in gaming?

Sure, your right Fortnight is amazing, I'm playing it right now on my Samsung watch

im not disagreeing with you that they need to focus on other things, but it took Neilk about 30 seconds to add paperdoll lock
    --- Post updated ---
after playing for a bit, my updated thoughts on the paperdoll lock is that it either needs to be moved to .5 like DFO or it needs to be removed, right now it's at an awkward middle ground were i feel like it doesn't really do anything, it's too short, so you might as well completely remove it or go all the way and go to .5. if i had to choose between these 2 options i would definitely go .5

Pretty much how I feel. I've dueled now for roughly 5 hours with it. It isn't high enough that it impacts the game in the way it should, yet it still takes away from the "fluidity" of the game. Any delay is going to make the game feel slightly less fluid of course, but the trade-off is that it adds another layer to combat. The increased importance of knowing when or when not to cast, the ability to bait people to switch to melee because you feint pushing them, the ability to melee people who are caught in that .5 second delay and can't melee you back, etc. are all things were lost when the delay was removed. I don't feel that .3 is quite enough to add back the nuances of combat that a significant delay gives the game.

yeah... at first 350ms was definitely very noticeable and people were fucking up a lot - but now that everyone's gotten a chance to get used to it there's really not much of a difference.

Why would you expect it would be any different with another 150ms added? People are just better at the game in 2021 and less prone to simple mistakes that would have happened in 2012.

The point isn't for people to make mistakes, its more so to slow down transitions. 150ms isn't an insignificant amount to add on top of 350ms, and as it is right now I don't think it slows it down enough to make combat feel significantly different. Everyone can still transition super fast and can basically do what we used to do without the delay.

At the moment I think there's two different directions that can be taken with the combat. Either we go the DFO path and increase the delay to 500ms so poor transitioning is more punishing - or we go a more DFUW type path. Increase stat drain, increase transfer/heal magnitude and get rid of the delays that were reintroduced.

Each would result in a drastically different feel but it would be better than not touching it at all imo.

i think this is very well said, but this needs to be said from DFO vets and not just UW kids, but i agree that the game has 2 directions, it's either supposed to be played slower, more methodical with transitions and catching people on their mistakes which really relies on a paperdoll lock, or if you completely remove all delays and want the combat to be super fast then you need to raise stating to counteract the rapid fire dps. i think removing paperdoll lock and not touching statting is super awkward, it just doesn't feel like how the game is supposed to be played and feels a lot less skillful and impactful then it should/could be

edit: the current 350ms is noticeable, but doesn't impact the flow of combat THAT much, you feel it but its pretty negligible, you can tell it's there but it's not quite what it needs to be to really change anything.. adding 150 ms would definitely be noticeable. for an example, adding another 150ms would impact ray-parry a bit whereas the current 350ms doesn't really effect it.

to be honest though i don't think players are going to be happy with increasing paperdoll lock because they won't take the time to understand and appreciate the intricacies, it's sad but i really like think that is the truth. i personally think raising the paperdoll lock is the right direction to go but im ok with whatever

Yeah I definitely agree that if BPG doesn't revert back to 500 ms AND increase GCD , they need to do something to statting. The TTK is too low right now. Just look at the current videos being released. Every other person is dying in 20 seconds lol.

That's a good way of putting it. Darkfall used to feel like chess, in a way. Catching people in their mistakes and reacting to what I predict they're going to do before the actually do it. When everyone can machine gun spells and instantly swap to any weapon at any time, that feeling gets lost. It no longer feels like how it seemed like it was supposed to feel. Darkfall was very unique in that way

Revert until action queueing the new patch is NOT poggers and the old way MUST be resinstated. The Darkfall community begs BPG to revert.
