For the love of Dwarven gods before us, this needs addressed. Anytime I see a character I feel I need to pull out the HomeLand Security Advisory System chart and match it with the Rise Of Agon chart and try to understand if killing this guy is going to be a bad move.
Had a small group out farming, and got jumped by another small group. One blue, one was orange, one was like yellow. I didn't know who the fuck was safe to hit, we killed them all, and now 2 of those cost a ton of alignment, and of course the blue went gray, and right before death went blue again so that was also fantastic.
Fuck these charts. Can we go back to common sense? Blue = Blue, Gray = blue who flagged, Red = Bad guy (War Dec, PK), Green for allies and guildies.
Just blue, grey and red. Let the title of the player show you "how red" someone is. Add more titles like in UO so that everyone have a title (http://uo2.stratics.com/reputation/fame-and-karma-reputation-titles/). Also, put the title before the name instead of below it!
It definitely is confusing, as being orange used to mean that you are at war (and it was like that in UO too if I'm not mistaken). So basically, if you see a orange or red player, you knew what to expect. Now? I'm still not 100% sure
Yeah I thought we got over this in beta when there were like 12 colors and everyone hated it, so they reverted to red, grey and blue. Now we're back to red, grey, blue, orange, yellow...
It's because BPG is clearly incompetent at creating DF into a sustained MMO rather than just an arena PVP game.
Oh wait. I meant to say they like making changes just because Umberto sneezed.
I wouldn't go that far. Most of what they've done has been great.
Are you guys just being facetious with the yellow thing? I've only seen blue/grey/orange/red and it's not confusing.
I agree if we're talking about a game for maxed level characters in 60 days or less to just PvP in an arena. Not a hardcore, full-loot, sandbox mmorpg
Clans you're at war with show up as yellow

Orange: -200 to 0???
It's not too bad to truly throw a fit about, but it really seemed like nothing needed to change AGAIN after what happened in beta. Then launch day it changed again.
The pollen count was high that day.
If anything, war should be orange and that other one between blue and red should be yellow. That would be less confusing I think.
They put the "grind" on the gear and materials. Which of those, more will continuously be added. Just because we're not working our characters FOREVER, does not mean the game will be devoid of content.
Don't worry, I initially share the concern, but based off the changes proposed, and done, I am a firm believer in BPG and what they're capable of.
In my first MMO there was:
Yellow: Killed someone recently, but still +Align
Essentially turning the game into a gear grind game like WoW(except with dura loss) rather than a skill based grind like EVE. And no critical economy other than inflated gold constantly.
Except in WoW you don't drop any of your gear, so that argument is pretty null and void. Gear is lost, and breaks over time. Gear in WoW does not.
And what is the main difference in a gear grind vs a skill grind? It's the same thing. Really.
Sense of progression vs Sense of sustaining. Two completely different rewards to the mind.
The less colors the better.
That sense is purely in the beholder.
I look at the acquiring of enchants, mats, gear, as a progression of my bank.
Maybe you just need to change your mindset.
I'm a full-time crafter @Jonah_Veil. My mindset is aligned to that as well, but in relation to the general public, they don't see it this way.

The other aspect of a hardcore, full-loot, sandbox mmorpg that is blatantly missing is a stabilized market. Very few games have got this right or understood its value.
Now if we consider RoA to be a pvp combat arena, that's cool and BPG is definitely hitting that mark just fine.

I'm now looking into psychological research around those two and seeing. I'd assume there's been studies behind those two, but I don't have any hard facts at this point. Attempting to be counter Darkfall culture and actually have facts behind the desires of my penis.
