[Poll]Should Red Players Just Be Red?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Wes Furtive, May 16, 2017.

?

Should players with barely negative alignment be orange or red?

  1. No more orange. Red only. Variance is confusing

    Orange was in there the last change in beta, I just don't think anyone ever hit it. It's not a recent change.

    I'm now looking into psychological research around those two and seeing. I'd assume there's been studies behind those two, but I don't have any hard facts at this point. Attempting to be counter Darkfall culture and actually have facts behind the desires of my penis.
    So technically it wasn't user tested?

    I'll be giving them all of the best suggestions I can to make it more of a living breathing Sandbox. The problem with most of these ideas, is there are HIGH DEV time.

    But foundational. If not done first, it's hard to change later down the road.

    You might be surprised about dev time. Sometimes things seem like they would take forever and it's really a simple change. It just depends. Regardless we are always ready to hear more sandbox :)

    Remove all these silly colors !!! It's confusing and doesn't do good for the whole game . It should be like this :
    Blue for lawful
    Grey for rogue
    Orange for war declared opponents
    Red for murderers and baddies

    I voted Other.

    Players should be Grey if they are hostile and Red if towers will attack them.

    I feel that Darkfall should have an investigation skill that can be used with any Melee weapon out to apply a short time buff that will tell you...
    player alignment
    last mob killed
    last player killed
    Time and Location of Last Death

    Harvest Node Re-spawn Time
    Exact HP of player/monsters

    The investigate skill could require 80 intelligence and consume 200 mana for a 10 second buff!

    The alignment system in its current form is just absolutely horrible. Making everyone be allied did nothing to change that fact

    Blue=Good
    Grey=Rogue
    Red=Evil
    Orange=At War

    Titles by the name should be the differentiation between the intensity of the individuals alignment.

    Saint for +1000
    Villain for -1000

    Come up with sweet titles in between. Don't change the color.

    Ex.

    Hero +500
    Lawful citizen +200

    Bandit -100
    Mugger -200

    Stuff like that. Keep it simple, stupid.

    I like titles and have plans for more. I wasn't thinking for alignment though it could work.

    The orange color ending up being the alignment allowed into outer cities was an accident, but one I think makes a bit of sense. So Imagine for a minute if you're sitting in niasha and a red walks in. Does that make sense or if he was orange and you knew that orange was allowed there would that make more sense?

    Another thought I had is comparing it to Eve. I don't remember the symbol/color scheme perfectly, but I think if we were to translate it over it would look something like this:

    Blue is above 0
    Red is below 0

    Rogue would be flashy, like a yellow or white flashing outline around the name.

    Rogue players could be attacked at will without repercussion and cause tower agro.

    -201 and lower would be red, but perma rogue.

    Of course the -200 would still not be allowed in newbie areas. The part I'm not sure about is the flashing full time. Maybe another type of indication that the player is blow the threshold.

    I like the idea of anyone regardless of their alignment having some indicator that they've just done something. So rogue for all is a good thing. The thing I'd like to make it easy to get across to players is that threshold of no longer being allowed in newbie areas, killable without repercussion, but still able to enter some limited NPC cities.

    Ok did a quick check and it's a bit different in Eve. Eve for one is customizable, but it would look more like:

    Rogue would be flashy.

    above 0: blue
    below 0: A different color (Eve is yellow)
    below -200: red

    Below another threshold, maybe -500 they're flashy red

    So I wasn't too far off with this current setup :)

    What are your guys' thoughts on making someone rogue for an extra amount of time if they recently killed or ganked another blue? It feels bad losing alignment because you're helping new players get their stuff back from whoever ganked them. I don't attack everyone in sight and I don't hurt newbies but I'm still being pushed towards red alignment by the system because I try to avenge new players in my clan when I get a chance.

    Yeah it's definitely tough to sort when we can't programmatically determine intentions, but there is a sort of bounty hunter system we discussed in one of our road maps where when a person is killed they would get "kill rights" on that individual and be able to sell those kill rights. So basically if a newbie friend was killed you could get the kill right from them for the revenge. More detail will be revealed when the system begins, but that's a quick overview and I think it would help in those situations.

    The bounty hunter idea sounds nice but it won't be used in practice:

    a) too much hassle
    b) another layer of un-needed complexity
    c) how do you find the player in the world - especially when he can just teleport away?

    As for "more detail will be revealed", read "we thought about this but didn't think about how it would work in game and what its ongoing effects would logically be." Which could be said for a number of the changes that were dumped in untested. Like the alignment system.
