I like this one a lot. I would even consider buff others to be the same way. @Uzik Don't count on regs as the only gold sink. Think of making new ones.
I really like this idea. I like to think of raising things through use, rather than just standing around and spamming them, but in DFO you would never get a buff to 25, even if you cast it every time the buff fell off.
I think self-buffs were one of the weaker areas of the combat system in DF.In the end trying to pvp without them or being forced to fight without them was hopeless and it was another reason that destroyers were not a viable class in solo pvp. Does anyone really enjoy 5 minutes of casting buffs before every fight? I certainly didn't. I know ROA guys are not keen on making a lot of combat changes but this is something worth looking at I think.I think buff other spells are fine and give an advantage to well prepared groups but for small scale and solo self buffs were a real nuisance.
Its not 5 minutes though. Pretty sure you are done within a minute. But obviously you need to recover the mana/stamina...so that usually means it takes a bit longer. Same for warding, if you actually wanted to properly ward up it would take around a minute, needing mana afterwards. But it set apart the groups that created the time to do these things, to the ones that rushed into combat the first chance they got. I really dont recall any of this as a problem, but maybe it has just been too long.
@Vic due to the comment in Discord I thought I'd mention here as well. I voted NO because making something skill slower only increases the amount of time macroing. I prefer the idea of the school leveling the skill. That would actually remove the macroing for those skills and I would even suggest adding buff others to that same mechanic.
The big problem here is that you would never level a self buff "fast enough". I.e. if you only use the self buff when it was appropriate it would level really slowly. Overall I would say that this is not a big issue since leveling on mobs is much faster than self buffing, and so long as RoA is front loaded etc. people will not feel the same intense push to AFK macro buffs.
It may not be as intense, but they'll still do it. Unless offline meditation is amazing, you might as well do something while you are doing nothing.
Except that it costs "a lot". If you have 50k, and you spend 25k on regs (thats 6k reagents, which is like 3k casts...which is only a few hours...not even a full night). Thats half your bank gone over night. Now you might ofcourse earn more than 25k in your play time...but the real issue on EU launch was all the exploiting/duping that made players have millions. Then it doesnt matter. Really think think macroing wouldnt be done as much, when funds are limited. Its a trade off, and with meditation being more usefull....running 24/7...able to do anything... There's already a pretty big gold sink active untill your char is done.
