Shard carriers are a stupid idea unless there's some reasonable distance they can move away from the city and the shard holder shows up on the map for the defending clan. I liked the ~4 hour sieges or whatever especially if they introduce siege windows so that these "sudden" sieges could only happen during a time that you are saying your clan is ready to defend during but shard carriers were abandoned and I think for good reason. That basically turns sieges into a capture the flag game assuming you have to kill the holder and then take the shard back to your city.
A good fix IMO would be Attacking Alliance vs the Defending Alliance would be gray to each other. If someone not in said two Alliances then if they kill or loot one of the 2 Alliances they would take a 10% stat loss / skill loss per kill / per loot. Stat and skill loss burns off at a rate of x per day. It should be somewhat easy to code and would be a quick easy fix. Punishment needs to be hard for people interfering with sieges.
That is just weird. Punishment for things like that should be done by the community, as with many other things people think bpg should fix when it's really up entirely to the community and there isn't really much if anything bpg can do even if they tried. People who interfere in sieges should be shunned, not sucked. Dayar kept ruining intensities sieges to the point of literally making them give up, and I was more than willing to punish them for it, but people are such scared little bitches (intensity included) they decide to suck dayar instead so they hit others in the back besides them. Short sighted greedy dummies.
not that I'm saying stat loss is a good thing, but leaving stuff up to the community doesn't work in most cases. It's always been a dream to have a game where the players policed themselves, but in practice it doesn't work at all. Never has and never will, at least not with the kind of population that is required for an MMO to continue to exist.
What /should/ be done and what ultimately is done by the remaining loot whore, nutcupping, pixel loving community are two different things. What /should/ be done is if a clan interferes with a siege they have no reason to be at, the server should indeed shun them and actively attempt to destroy that clan and beat them into submission. What /ends up/ happening is the clan that shows up ends up creating a faux alliance with whoever they helped more and creates a nutcup that people can continually go to and rely on to protect themselves and ends up in a server war. This community as a whole can't stand to lose EVER, and can't take a step back and realize that it's just a game and if they lose they need to go back to the drawing board instead of nutcupping and using the easy "I WIN" button.
FUCK THIS FUCK NO Fuck having your shard carrier DC (or have to goto the bathroom) and lose hours worth of siege prep. Fuck short siege timers where people get paged to hop into a video game to defend holdings. Fuck putting hours worth of prep into the hands of a single person. Do you really remember this dynamic at all? it was a total shit-fest.
You know we can drop things on the floor right? Easy fix. Shard drops to the floor upon DC with a light beaming into the air. They would be fun as fuck.
I think when it comes to shard carrier that's a discussion we'll bring up a little later on, but yeah if we did we would drop the item. I plan to do that with trade packs so we'll have plenty of testing on it.
Doesn't even have to be for sieges. Could be used for events and such. These were so much fun and I'm sure whatever way you implement it will be a blast.
I would rather see shard holders become a different kind of event entirely like villages. Sieges should be about siege warfare and not about playing hide and go seek or capture the flag.
fuck shard holder sieges, i was around during that era of time this is like someone saying lets bring in local banking
