Something has been bothering me

    TL;DR: I dislike the "new" menu and redesigned it for you.

    Hi guys.

    I love darkfall. I have played since DFO, through UW (not until the end though), Beta in both RoA and ND, and in both releases. Nothing compares to darkfall.

    I just recently started playing RoA again, after being away from it since Beta.

    There was however something back then that greatly annoyed me, and it is, after being away for a long time clearly (since i am writing this ) still drawing my attention to it.

    Im trying to not sound like a fucking douche here, but my problem is with the “new” menu.

    You see, i work as a UX-designer at a international company. While my strength is the User experience part with flows, logics, testing etc; i still do graphical design on a daily basis when asked to. I am not saying that i’m a great visual designer. But i get paid to do it.

    The issues i have with the menu is that first of all, its not consistent. Some icons is fill, some is outline. Some is flat, some has depth and detail. Some is just far to detailed for the minimal size they come in, and others i actually think you guys just auto-generated outlines from a photo in Illustrator and left it (Im thinking of you, backpack icon!) . The size seem to differ somewhat as well.

    There. I hope i wasn't to harsh. I mean no harm!

    With that said, if your not part of the solution, you are part of the problem, right?

    So i did something you didn't ask me to.

    I took the liberty to have a go at the menu and spent a few hours redesigning it with icons that use the same style, are the same size, and actually look like the belong together. I tried to keep your choice of icons as much as possible, but some icons were to similar.

    I also raised the height of the menu with 4px to the total height of 40px instead of 36px to allow the icons to breath a little and feel less squeezed in there.

    If i were you, i also would remove the size increase of the icons when active. The color contrast is if you ask me more than enough.

    Players: Feel free to give some feedback on it. No design is perfect from the start.

    I want to stress that i did not do this to mess with you or anything like that. You guys rock and i love darkfall and really want this game to succeed.

    I like it :) Looks good. No doubt the original is sub par the entire GUI redesign was done it just 2 days. I like the icons you choose (or created) better overall as well!

    i do not notice much of a difference ., could care less about this ., add it don't add it ., don't matter ., my only hope right now is TTC

    Interesting how the little things make such a big difference.


    GUI is part of the problem for new player retention. Probably 90% of players that see ig won't try because of the overall gfx 50% of which is the GUI.

    Agreed, we may not see it as we're used to the game and window but the first time you see a game you notice a lot of things seasoned players forget about. Improved GUI and bindings are needed for the npe improvements we have in mind.

    I like the new icons you made and the uniformity of them it is much cleaner :)

    Clean and Simple; Smooth and Clear. I like it.
    And whoever does not see the impact things like this have, clearly will not be hurt by them.
    DF (not only RoA) lacks this industrial strenght cohesion of quality/design in many, many aspects.

    lol to funny . the first time i seen the gui option thing i was like oh a gui option thing ., then i clicked on them one by one until i clicked them all once ., then i started playing the game ., very pointless ., but good job you did something people think is great ., u r great ., keep up the great work ., great great

    the only thing I ask 2 years ago was to be able to select how many hotbars u can see.

    right now it's 1 or all 10

    prob gonna take 1-2 week of dev time ...

    if dev actually plays or played the game more they would have fixed that and the stupid enchanting GUI system.

    That's not true, the hotbar is not something that ever bothered me as a player. After placing stuff I just ignored it completely.

    Enchanting just needs to be changed to a regular crafting system entirely.

    As far as dev time goes it gets put in line with everything else, unfortunately.

    Personally, I would love to have 3 hotbar open to see all my skill/ spell whit an actual countdown system. U prob have no clue what i m talking about... here s a picture.

    PEOPLE USE MACROS FOR POTION TIMERS THAT MEANS YOU NEED TO MAKE IT SO THAT SCRIPT IS POINTLESS., SAME WITH AUTO LOOT SCRIPTS THAT ARE WAY BETTER THEN BUILT IN OPTION TO LOOT

    Its ok to have your own opinion. Don't feel bad if you didn't notice it, you're a vet, it's expected.
    I've done gfx artist work for years, it's why I noticed. No worries man
