I heard they're removing city mines (the only incentive to hit cities) from cities. I'm sure removing that gonna help... --- Post updated --- Actually you can pve/ debuff/Ray PvP in medium 19.88 magic 39 overall encumbrance
firstly, in my opinion all combat changes in roa’s history should be wiped and reverted to original darkfall online. Than revert skill addons to darkfall online eu launch where jump shots were allowed for magic and archery and water shot etc. Back to content: Bring back city teleport system but for empire building only (holdings near each other). Revert city nodes to df1. Add in hire-able Npc guards. Bring back city warnings (maybe on delay, give intruder 30 sec) Add in territory control empire bonuses like teleport chambers. Also give slight buff bonuses for city defense for empire building. Make a capital city option for clans and all extra holdings degrade quickly. They need gold and Mats for upkeep. More upkeep cost the further from the capital city holding. Make an alliance tab so alliances go to war with other alliances. No more side alliances or friendlies etc or blue safety. Add in bulletins to chaos cities only and remove from capital cities. Gives blues a different type of bonus. Maybe like joining npc guild factions like mages guild or fighters guild or local city militia for good quest lines that reward titles and good rare loots etc and unlocks guild wars which are separate from clan and alliance wars. These will be npc outpost sieges for control points like wilderness banks etc. Buff up crappy mobs no one farms. Add in named boss mobs that randomely spawn in regular spawns. Add in roaming pirate ships controlled by npc pirate mobs. Kind of like krakens but with ships. Destroy them and get shipwreck loots. Add in more small clan holdings like farms, pirate caves, military towers, bandit camps. Make these have a clan member max and not siegeable by alliances. Only clan to clan mini sieges. Maybe like clans tht have less than 10 members. Make holdings way easier to destroy and cheaper to build, so it doesn’t take an hour to destroy 30 walls. Finally do seasonal wipes except toons and houses. Change each seasons up a bit to make them unique and fun. Let full season subscribers carry over a family heirloom item that gets maybe x3 blessing so they can die with it 3 times before it being lootable also maybe allow it to be repaired 3 times. And if they carry the same item over to next season than it gets a small stat bonus. Wipes shouldn’t scare people since it’s soo easy to get items now in roa. Suggested seasons would be like: no crafts allowed above rank 50. Another season maybe only main land is playable and sub continents are closed off. Another season maybe all mobs drop r60 and above gear and craftingbisnt really needed. Another season maybe it’s purely survival more like rust style hardcore mode. Etc.
with the current combat i dont think anyone will return to the game. at least its what ppl says when i call them.
It's more like floundering. I was really excited going into the Twitch QA back in May. I believed they had a road map defined and designs and requirements for those road map items. But the Twitch QA was all over the place and it became apparent they are winging it with no real focus or clue. Depressing because I came back in January because the momentum the patches were creating population was increasing. I was excited and was ready to shell out a serious cash donation but after the Twitch QA I decided not to. I haven't played since the Twitch QA. Just SAD!
Content: the things that are held or included in something. Pretty blanket statement. I'd love to know where you want new things to be included. Do you want more reasons to PvP? Do you want more PvE options? Do you want non-PvP and PvE tasks like quests? Or perhaps you're just looking for the tools to create content yourself? It would also be helpful to state, precisely, what you're unsatisfied with participating in. You don't like PvP? Why? PvE? Why? I'll just ask questions of your OP. I'm not meaning to come off as a dickhead, i'm actually curious. I know why I don't play at the moment, and I sit back and wait for the changes I'm excited for. So I will ask you what you want, maybe I want it as well... So first question, what is content to YOU. By definition, it's just what's included. But it seems arbitrary on these forums because the game itself has content, you're jist either bored or unwilling to participate in it for what ever reason, which you are free to express why you don't participate in it... Which is more helpful imo. I too don't enjoy most of the content currently. Second question... Do you believe combat should remain untouched because it is the only thing Darkfall has to offer? If so, why are you so adamant against changes, if it is the only content worth exploring? Don't you want more options? Or would you rather play the same thing for the rest of your life?
Almost none of us said it should be untouched forever. But that it was so good that it needed to be left for last because it was by far the strongest part of the game. The rest of the game needed to be built up BEFORE deciding to mess up that one good aspect. By messing with it way too early they basically took the games strongest point and made it weaker. There is no denying combat is worse and less diverse right now than before. The sudden nose dive in player activity reflects this. The game is undeniably dead for all intents and purposes. They basically took part of their extremely limited resources of dev time and spent it on something that was already rated a 9/10 and the result was a 7/10 at best, some people would rate it much lower. Instead of taking other parts of the game that were universally regarded as 1/10 or 2/10 and working on those they cut down the best part. The one part (combat) that made the game really worth fighting for. The other aspect is the alienation of the community. We said please don't do this and they did it anyways. This destroys trust. When we don't have any trust or faith in BPG, we doubt the games future and rightfully so. After all if you want a product and the company says 'no you really want this', and its completely not what you want you need to be skeptical. If you doubt the games future and have no faith in its dev team, you don't log in because its wasted time. Because people don't log in the game becomes less and less fun for the people who still do, creating a cycle in which less and less people log in. The game honestly doesn't nor has it ever really stood on its own. The combat was just good enough to make us hang in there for future changes. Now we don't even have that anymore.... is it any wonder why so few people are sticking around?
Thanks for typing that out. Its hard to explain the same thing over and over when people have trouble grasping it after the 10th time.
So relics which have a good chance at breaking pvp to make pve more valuable and fun (trying to be fair here). I don't see the combat becoming better or more skillful. I see it becoming more cheesy and TTK issues becoming even more apparent. Glass half empty I suppose. I also see them becoming a source of constant drain on dev time trying to balance the crazy retard builds that end up making combat retarded. It also feels like we are giving up what real diversity we used to have, with fake diversity which amounts to just spells being different colors because you have X relics but everyone still playing light mage or full heavy. RIP medium builds. The mines and clan plat seem good... But none of this even has ETA's does it?
I agree with everything you wrote. But hypothetically, what would you do if you felt compelled to make combat changes? The situation BPG is in is being pressed on one side by the dozens of current players who are outraged at combat being changed, and on the other side by the people who voted "Combat Diversity" to the third most requested feature on the Roadmap (behind TCS and Markets). Clearly there are people who were playing RoA when the roadmap was released who care about combat changes. So, what would you do if you had to do something? To answer my own question: I would start workshopping new abilities for melee and archery, and I would expand the armor system to include more choices than bone and metal.
BPG has spent how many months now working on combat? Look what it's done to the population. Like my original post says.... how low does the population need to be before people realize that combat changes will not bring people back. And you want them to continue discussing/working on more combat changes? Isn't that the definition of insanity?
But as I said, the other systems depend on the combat. If the current system cannot support additions, then the argunent is null. If you do not have a strong foundation, the house will crumble. Do you believe the foundation was strong enough to support additions? Do you want an extravagant mansion, or just a shanty shack? Perhaps you could have your shanty with a mansion being built on the side, but from what I can tell, this team isn't able to do that, because Darkfall's code is atrocious. So again I ask, was the combat strong enough to support additions? Furthermore, do you believe the combat was easy enoigh to balance around additions? Thirdly, do you believe the team would have done additions if it were possible? As a fibal footnote, I've noticed even the smallest of changes have never gone over well, so I am in further disbelief that "it was never said to be untouched". I heard it all the time. "I Just wish they wouldnt touch the combat." Thanks
It's like, we had more viable builds when combat wasn't touched. --- Post updated --- First off, i think ''content'' can be what ever you want it to be. Most importantly, ''content'' is a state of mind. It'd be easier if you just said:''what can be satisfying for you''. It's never specific when we say ''content'' so we need to use an other word just to understand ourselves better. When you play any mmo, you should be ''content'' enough to play just that and nothing else. With the current pop, we can't be ''content'' enough. So we need ''content'' more than ever now to be satisfied. ... 1. I for one think the safezones take too much space in this gigantic sandbox. They are literally safezones now unlike before. Imagine if the old war dec was still here: all 6 safezone would have been the biggest hot-spots by now which is ''more content''. That content(old war dec) got removed based on some past complaint. 2. I still think the world should be smaller or there has to be less point of interest. Too many spots where i can make 60k+ per hour which makes the world look empty. In DFO, we didn't have too many good spawn so it was pretty easy to find ppl. There should be fewer quality spawns and that should be enough ''content'' for us. 3. We shouln't have any trouble to find what's content for us for 8 hours long per day. I don't and never will play 8 hours long in a day of DF coz i'm too old now, but i bet i can still do that in wow, fallout 4 or any other addictive game. Why? Coz i can just go do what's fun for me all day rather than waiting for that opportunity to come by pure luck in those games that i mentioned. __ 1. removed content: let's take it back 2. Enough content: we don't need too much. 3. Let's free ourselves from the boredom.
I stand firm that everything I said would happen, happened. When you had a halfway healthy population(launch) you let griefers run them out, because you had fond memories of stupid fucking shit that should have been changed prior to launching, not after. You started fucking with combat and ran off the die-hard fans, and at no point have you really added anything to do in the game. Edit: instead of taking ideas from the only largely successful game in this genre(EVE) you just tried to wing it. At no point has this felt like anything other than a private server for an old game, no professionalism, just a bunch of friends goofing off trying to run a server.
It's amazing what can't be accomplished when priorities aren't in order. It's up to BPG to dig themselves out of this one and if they can pull it off good for them.
