I think the current combat is better without buff, but the world of dfo was better with 2 selentine golem, 2 best dungeon hot spots, cairn take overs, hot ruby? Useless niff... Now, you can easily make 60k in most places if you know how. I would love to go back to that. No runebooks.
Just keep in mind that some people here worked on the dev team with the source code, but quit because getting paid $100k per year seemed better than for free or minimum wage.
$100k is entry level pay where I live. TS/SCI defense contract jobs add about 40-60k to that(That's right. If you're prior service with a current TS/SCI.... you can get a 140-160k salary immediately out of college near D.C. Anyone that willingly works in game development is taking a serious cut in pay because they love what they do - long hours with less pay is a turn off to most people. lol).
It all depends on the person and what they like. I really like graphics programming and compute shaders opened a lot of fun ways to optimize. There are a LOT of different things that encompass game programming. I still remember my first time writing an lz77 compression tool for shits and giggles because I was working with a lot of large texture files and was curious. Keep in mind - Networking, security, game logic, rendering, audio, ai/pathfinding, etc. Games are pretty much a one-stop shop for a lot of interesting areas in software development.
Working on a game that's been your favourite game for the past 10 years and getting paid for it is definitely not boring, I've worked in large enterprise companies, startups, contract work, other games companies and this is definitely the most exciting job i've been doing. Sometimes in life you realize it's not worth doing a boring soul crushing job for big money when you can work on something you love and get paid enough to live nicely.
I love games and would love to make a game myself, however I find the actual coding and repetitiveness of it really boring, I guess it would be quite satisfying to actually finish a game you like, although I am far to lazy for that.

Just thought I'd chime in here and say that you probably shouldn't take "those people" word for much.
The main problem with this is that Darkfall is a full loot game and that is one of the major appeals to a lot of the people who play / played it, the more you reduce the grind the less fun the full loot part of it is.
Comparing combat changes between uw and roa is pretty drastic. The changes they've made in roa are pretty small and more quality of life. The number of players that actually quit because of the combat changes in roa are insignificant compared to those that left because of uw's combat changes. Just think back on those changes. Priority is the only argument you have, but like they've stated countless times the changes they've made were all things they wanted to do and they were learning the code in the process. Modifying existing stuff to learn the inner workings makes a lot more sense than jumping in and adding new things to something you know nothing about.
I wish the world was smaller. I wish we were all together in 1 sub island. I don't see what we are waiting for at this point. Battle royal type games are huge, but the world gets progressively smaller as the poison gas spreads more; forcing you to stay in that circle that's getting smaller and smaller. Grinding enchanting is boring as hell and you need it. You don't have to craft, but then, you gotta find somebody who can enchant your stuff. Character grind is not necessary in a sandbox. Now, it's easy so it's fine. Gear grind has to stay, but the casting time it takes to craft bulks is not necessary at all.
Making darkfall an arena is not gonna bring any df players back and the graphics suck so new players wont give a shit to try it over the new fad shit like fortnite or that other retarded one that looks like fortnite. Darkfall is an mmo is that is not what you want then go play fucking fortnite or pubg this is A MMO fucking dense idiots. It has nothing to do with how comparable or not the combat changes are, it's all about deciding to work on combat instead of something else.
I don't know what you guys mean by this. The armour change was the only bad part of combat. They reverted that. Everything else is fine now.
Nah right now the encumberance system is fucked. You either play 0 encumberance mage or super heavy. They lost all the in between. It should be damage and speed vs survivability. You can’t and shouldn’t have all three, cause although it makes expensive armor way more useful, it destroys the other tankier options for a mage / bone chest archer cause you are at a disadvantage playing it.

OSRS. --- Post updated --- The only real problem I can think of right now with combat changes is the butchery of cobras, and generally going about staff changes the wrong way, but the fuck ups made were enough to push a lot of the remainder of the population in an already low population game over the edge. Seriously theres only so much fuck up people can take before faith is lost and people move on, and everytime someone moves on, the chances of them finding something else and never coming back is even greater. false.
