System messages ONLY if you get hit by a tower.
People keep suggesting it, but it keeps getting ignored. This seems like the best compromise, you can still stealth through a city by hiding behind things, but some semblance of system messages remain.
I understand where they were coming from, but it severed the amount of pvp significantly when the messages were removed.
With this, if you don't want to alert anyone near or far, evading towers is a must. I've yet to hear a solid argument against this compromise.
I agree except for hitting a node.
There is no reason we get messages when clan or allies hit it but not enemies.
Retarded as in there's no reason to raid holdings now.
My alliance has 8 holdings, we live in one of them.
That is a failure of the siege system i think. If your alliance has 8 you should be constantly fighting to defend one of them from take over. Also if you all live out of one, what good would system messages do you in the other? you sitting on lots of rune stones to all your holdings?
You really think anyone cares about most of those holdings? The only people that visit them are chiners. It's not like there's a clan dying to live in each holding that exists.
Exactly, so why do you need system messages? I could go to 7 of your 8 holdings and not find a fight, if you had system messages i still wouldnt find a fight because you are all bound elsewhere. How does system messages being removed change this fact?
Because it comes with portal chambers.
Even without them though, it would help low skill clans survive. Can't count how many times we fucked people in beta.
The portal chambers being gone is good for the game. They need to fix the world portals, but in my opinion the city portals should be gone forever. The systems messages and portal chambers lead to a clan owning half the cities on the map to get around. It lead to Zerging PvP encounters because everyone from everywhere would portal to kill the 1-3 dudes in whatever city. The systems messages and portal chambers being gone are a step in the right direction in having clans actually have to defend their holdings.
If clans have rules about certain ranks hitting the nodes then it does make sense to get system messages.
I am torn on weather there should be a system message upon node use or tower hit for enemys.
Here's a real simple solution that would add system messages, as well as a real incentive to raid and defend cities:
1. Put a strongbox in every city keep, that officers of the owning clan can put gold in, that raiders can steal (by using spikes).
2. The security level of the city depends on how much gold is in the box. For example:
1000g = towers at 1/3 strength
5000g = towers at full strength, system messages for intruders after a 30 second delay
10000g = towers at full strength, system messages for intruders right away
It is better this way. You can actually sneak into a city to raid it without the retarded early warning message.
Don't most people raid cities so they can get pvp? Make it so we see who hits the nodes so that if I'm raiding a city I get the choice to alert people or not.
Big loss for entertainment in DF due to the removed system messages.
Portal chambers were a huge huge part of DF1. Probably one of the most used things day to day.
Just because 300 players used to use it every day didnt make it good for the game as a whole.
I would say DF in 2012 was more active than RoA.
Just because someone says it wasn't good for the game with no rationale doesn't mean it wasn't good for the game.
But of course, what would be best is if we had UW style portals--one on each subcontinent, and 4 or 5 around the mainland, all connected together.
