The grind is definately much, much better. It is a mmo for a reason not an arena game, so there needs to be progression.

I doubt it has anything to do with your stats. You would have died just the same to more players and vets who jump you and attack when not expecting it. Just the same, more people will be able to group up and hold down spawns/dungeons at will. This is how the game is designed and thankfully it is possible in Rise of Agon to control spots by numbers.

Would you feel better if everyone in RoA had maxed out stats and skills and you got killed exactly the same?
Do you want everyone exactly the same? Call of Duty Style?
This is a MMO. There should be a GAP. Thankfully there IS a gap. Players who play more, gain more stats faster then casuals. That is a good thing. Players who join a clan or create a clan will no doubt have more success in RoA then the solo noob playstyle. Nothing wrong with that either.

The biggest issue is imo is from blues and reds in the same clan or allied running around assisting and killing blues while not losing alignment. and trying to game this pos alignment system.

Well to me. From what im remembering from old dfo.
Fights seemed to last much longer and i definitely know i wasnt as statted as i am now and equally as geared.

Due to the instagibs how do we expect fresh spawns to learn anything when they are full to zero'd in a matter of seconds being hit by 90 dmg rays.

Yea because it took a month to macro each school. 6 months before people were brave enough to leave macro cities to start pvping.
Also, Magic has always been OP. Rays are a joke.

I feel like transfers aren't as good as df1 idk why but I feelike if I do the transfers I only get like a 5% gain for example instead of let's say 15% gain. I feel like the stealing of other stats is more steep than before but I can just be remembering it wrong.

You sound like you want everyone to be equal from the get go, and we all were, some just play more than you and that is OK. In every MMO out there there will be a gap between people who play casually and those who are more hardcore.

No lifers have no life. People that know the most efficient way to grind will be max fairly quickly especially if they have multiple hours a day they can play. Nobody will never convince me you can get max by playing casual, meaning at least an hour everyday. I think someone that works and has other responsibilities will always be behind the curve. The grind is FAR better than it was in DFO as we all have acknowledged. A few of those players have some great skill. Some just have a max character that when others catch up they will be the ones whining the most. Because then player skill comes into play and some of them that have max characters already are crutching on being able to grind faster than most others. I don't know what else they could do to close the gap, unless you put a cap on leveling per day. People would definitely be leaving if that were the case.

Well a "power hour" type of thing which increases gains for first 1 hour of login time every 24 hrs could help. But again, that only helps people who would log in every single day to get the inscreases stat/skill gain...That is just to improve gains even further for players. That first 1hr could be 3x skill/statgains. But once again, if you play LESS time then other people... why would you deserve to be equal or even close to them?

My point was if you don't play as much as the next guy that doesn't have the responsibilities in life that someone else may, they will almost always be ahead. The power hour thing sounds good, but then again after that you will be in an uphill battle with someone that plays more. Though it would make sense especially for those that have never played the game and don't know the most efficient way to grind.

I do not believe there is a way to fix the issue. As progression pace appears perfect to me. That does affect the casual player but there is no way around that. The truth of the problem is player behavior. People who have rushed on their development want to use that development. But instead of satisfying their hunger in moderation they complete wipe out entire regions of the map. That is the issue. New players will be pushed away not because they get killed occasionaly. But, because they are killed constantly. To keep them from leaving, people to need to be more patient for tons of PvP and stop killing the same people multiple times a day. Unless their behavior changes the new players are going to leave period.

I am down to pound brother.

Also the only retarded part of the grind IMO is papyrus. Its tedious as fuck dismounting every 10 seconds to pick up a plant that gives you 1-3. Its almost an insulting waste of time when it gives you 1.
They should have made it more rare, but give a proportionally larger amount of papyrus so it was less 'busy work' feeling.

Its been my biggest choke by far :(

I just quit this game today, third time. I work as a lawyer and I don't have the time play this game full time as much as I wanted to gain all the skills needed to become pvp viable, it just takes too much time. I just want to log in, have fun and not to be killed instantly by vet players that play this game 24/7, I cant even defend myself.

I have played Darkfall on and off since its launched 2009 and Unholy Wars and I was hoping, that this version of Darkfall would offer me the open world pvp experience that I was craving for, like in Ultima Online.

This game offers nothing to solo players and only offers game play mechanics to group players, that love to sit in voice chat and steam roll new players and pretend, that this game is mmorpg. This game isn't mmorpg, its just a very basic arena shooter game, that aged very badly.

What you mean is you want to go take the other guys paycheck.

Try fighting for another 80 hours a week paycheck.

You all keep saying there's no reason for a less develeped char to win. Ok you're right. But there's also no reason for them to be fighting each other either.

Anyone who kills new players at low level spawns for their own sadistic amusement will cause this game to be a still birth.

Hey man! I'm a vet from DF1 and Unholy Wars, I'm holding off on RoA to see where its going. The major issue they need to fix is the progression... what's the point of all the grind? DF is a PvP game. Give me the abilities required and I will own at PvP. Don't make it based on how much of a no lifer I am. And how much time I have to left click the shit out of a mob for weeks straight 16 hours a day. THATS what has ALWAYS caused the burnout for a majority of players. The fact is... PvE in this game fuckin sucks. It just does. I'm sure 98% of us can agree on that. So why base PvE on progression? Why make the shittiest most burn out inducing part of the game so necessary? Doesn't make sense to me. I always suggest just giving everyone, every skill. If they wana add a TINY bit of damage to it, or a sub effect you get from PvE then FINE. But don't force me into weeks and weeks of shit tier PvE farming. Until they learn this lesson I myself will stay away, because I know for a fact in a few months.. it will be a small group of no life vets no-lifer in an unpopulated game that others have burn out on trying to level up in.

If you want to play CS just go play CS. This game is a MMORPG with FPS influenced combat. It is not an FPS thus making your argument null.

    Wow. This discussion blew up..

I guess we can all agree to disagree.
We can agree that the gap we have right now will overall be the biggest one we will experience. Later people will have pretty similar toons and new players can get help from veterans.

We can also agree on the fact that people are actually leaving the game regularly for the reason that there is no purpose playing a game where a group of 5 well developed characters smashes the shit out of you at goblin spawn in a dungeon. Happened me the other day. No clan mentioned, but was among the most nolifer clans in the game.

Racial warfare could probably have prevented this. The current alignment system does not work that well though. It just prevents casuals from pvp since they need access to cities for skills, while the pvp oriented vets just steam role without caring at all about alignment.

In the sense that new players will stop joining the game completely, that is true.

Thing is, now, and really the entire time since launch, it has been the easiest it will ever be for a new player to close that gap. It's going to get progressively harder as people who aren't no lifers slowly slowly close the gap and become unbeatable for any new players.

Let's not forget either that a lot of people took advantage of creating multiple new characters for cash with multiple accounts early on, and benefited from some overly good spawns, and these things have been mostly fixed now.

The gap between high stat players and noobs takes far too long to close for a game thats supposed to be pvp and skill focused.

Really ROA has felt a lot like a wow pvp server launch where everyone is rushing to max level to avoid being ganked by maxed toons and to gang lowbies.

Only in darkfall there's a ton of actual benefit to ganking new players, and if anything the grind to be viable is longer.

This game either needs a shorter grind to having r90 spells, 75s in stats, and 75+ weapon/archery skill, or to make the benefits of these goalposts even less.

Even starting noobs with higher base stats and not gating essential pvp and pve spells would help a lot.

New players need easier access even to begone, and certainly to storm blast, witches brew, sacrifice, and maybe even spells like stone/iron skin if going the mage route.

Yeah I doesn't take that long to get these things, but they basically need to start with them, or get them by the time the noob quest chain ends to have more power in pve and all good bhopping options and heals.

Moving spells down from 100 in a magic school would also be good.

There is a difference between bad players and players who can only play limited hours in a week. They want to play, but don't have the time commitment.

Racial warfare would not have prevented this.

There was Racial warfare in DF1, and this shit happened all the time then too.
