    One of the most asked for things from people in this community as a whole, is to create diversity between players.

    Having specializations as they were, created a hell of a lot of balancing issues when trying to address diversity. We are now close, thanks to everyone who has been helping test changes, to a better state of combat WITHOUT specializations.

    What does this mean for the future? We can create and implement our Relic System to drive diversity WITHOUT constantly having to balance around a few specializations.

    It's still going to be a long road of imbalance and many many hours of dev time will be spent trying to balance things.

    And for the record we voted for:

    CHARACTER PERK SYSTEM
    The perks system will replace the current melee/archery specialisation system in game. It will offer a large variety of perks with multiple levels, each level costing more than the last. This allows players the ability to specialize in a few high level perks or spread out their choices to be more generalized. We plan to add in non-combat related perks as well, expanding on the choices players have with their characters to beyond combat specialisation.

    Diversity is a big thing and no one would disagree with saying that it'd be cool to get new combat stuff in dark fall that makes different play styles better, but people aren't upset at you based on the ideas you have, they are upset because your work flow as a company is complete DOG SHIT.

    We have said publicly that it was a mistake to push the first combat changes to live without spending more time on the Public Test Server, and have been busting our asses these past few days so we can patch the live server and get these balance changes in.

    Right now on the Public Test Server there are many changes that have arisen from feedback from veteran community members, and the general consensus on there is that things are looking very promising right now. We have also utilized this opportunity to address some long-standing issues, such as balance between spells/schools and other areas that have not been addressed for years.

    For those of you who have not seen the Public Test Server notes, here is the live document to reference. These changes have all come from player testing and feedback as it is has been a great back-and-forth with the focus group these past few days.

    I was not only referencing what was voted on in the road map, but was referencing all feedback we have gotten since first opening up the Alpha servers.

    And for the record, part of the enhancements to our team is being much more fluid with game design. What I mean by this is what you quoted was our original plan for creating diversity, and we have evolved it into a much better system now based off of feedback and further design discussions.

    Relics will create the diversity we have been wanting and will open up ways to specialize in many different playstyles, all without the issues that arise with hard-coded specializations or classes. The game will be much better because of this evolution in the design.

    Without players to use your combat changes on, they don't matter as simple minded as that it, it is the main issue, and the combat isn't what is stopping you from bringing in more players, it's actually the only thing that's holding your game together, if you can call this "together".

    Can confirm the test server feels way better than live. I logged in and couldn’t figure out why my ray button was only working sometimes. Did a few duels and logged out.

    I can’t get in discord or PTS any day soon here, but if you could suggest unarmed combat for me, that’d be supreme. Mahirim already give a mean left hook. Bludgeoning Damage based on your gauntlet. Lemme get them blue ice transmute FP gloves and knock someone the fuck out.

      • Equalize all magic protections on armor to unholy protection

      • Equalize r90s - (unholy flames) same damage, velocity, 20% stam drain, Exploding charge knockup, charge time and range.

        • Shared 5s cooldown (only one required)
      • Equalize r50s w/ lightning strike knockup

        • Shared 1.5s cooldown
      • Remove burden

      • Impale graphics adjustment

      • Remove fizzles from encumbrance and disable the spells instead (like destro)

      • Equalize Damage field AoE’s
    Looks like loads of diversity being added right there

    Please BPG stop with all these combat changes and just work on territory control. I get it takes a while but you are wasting so much time on these trash patches. You can’t even find people in prime time anymore at all.

    I agree, they should just gut most of the spells and do something new. Like making Fireball a stationary channeled spell that constantly spews Fireballs in the aimed direction.

    Bpg has literally stated it's easier and faster to fuck with combat and stats than it is to implement any sort of content. Population is so bad cuz all the cool kids are mindlessly dueling on the test server. All the lifeless pve'ers are experiencing a golden age while all the lifeless bangers are begging for what they want while banging on the pts...

    NO to 5 second ray global cooldown...

    INSTEAD make rays do damage based solely on STAFF RANK rather than magnitude/ speed so slow staffs and fast staffs do equal damage for rays (factor in spell magnitude enchant after if possible). Then adjust their damage (lower it) if you feel they are too strong

    A ray cooldown will rape the flow of combat I'd much rather be able to use a a ray more often with less damage per hit

    Alternatively you could take the New Dawn ray charge up route but preferably with higher instant damage then they did

    Also uncap staff magnitude and make slow staffs like spell magnituded corpsecallers an actual viable option again
