Just going to offer a recap of the Unelak Siege that happened last night. Would be great if more people posted what is going on in the world of Agon. Participants Defenders: Shadow Syndicate Allies: Absolution Attackers: Outlaws Allies: Ironwrath, Drifters of Agon, Memento Mori, ??? Hired Mercenaries: Washed Up Third Party: Lords of War (maybe operating with the attackers). Numbers Defenders: ~25-30 Attackers: Over 40+, maybe over 50 Siege went live and the Defenders decided to hold the hamlet as they suspected that they would be outnumbered. The bank, two towers and one small section of wall were up. The first engagement happened as Outlaw and its allies pushed the hamlet from the south while Wash Up pushed from the north. The Attackers pushed up into the hamlet and it looked as if the hamlet was going to be overrun by the attacking force. However the defenders decided to push south into the Outlaw/Ironwrath force and ended up routing them and sending them into a full retreat. At the same time Washed Up was fully inside the hamlet but were driven out after the main attacking force was broken. The first engagement was a clear victory for the defenders but there was a lot of time left on the siege timer. The defenders decided to try and end the siege and pushed south out of the hamlet towards the siege stone. As they arrived at the siege stone the attackers had a sizable force at the stone and their were multiple groups closing in on the defenders from all sides. The decision was made to retreat back to the hamlet. Soon the attackers, regeared and regrouped in seemingly even greater numbers than before, were gathering to the north and south of the hamlet for another fight. Having lost confidence in their ability to take the hamlet by force they spawned two boats to the north of the hamlet and started shelling the bindstone. The defending clan Shadow Syndicate responded by dropping a boat of their own. Soon it looked like the small Shadow Syndicate naval force was going to be overrun by the swarm of attackers and their allies, Absolution, joined the fray. What happened next was a drawn out fight that had many death on both sides. At one point all three boats were lined up next to each other and intense, close quarter boat combat ensued. Absolution managed to steal two of the boats and sail away, saving one but losing the other to the Washed Up mercenaries. At this point the bindstone was at 1/3 health and the hamlet was surrounded on all sides by enemies, preventing fallen defenders from reentering the hamlet. The remaining defenders decided to make a final charge at the remaining boat. Although the initial push to the boat was successful, it was clear that the defenders were too heavily outnumbered and the water combat was favoring the group with superior numbers. The defenders were finally broken and the hamlet was overrun and taken down. The attackers were victorious. Great fight, everyone had a lot of fun. Some might criticize the attacking clan for hiring mercenaries when they knew they would heavily outnumber the Defenders...but war is about winning and without hiring mercenaries it is very doubtful that Outlaws and Ironwrath would have won. To the victors go the spoils, another mine consolidated into a large alliance.
Nice writeup. Pretty darn accurate. For the record, we fielded 23 at the beginning of the siege. Maybe picked up 2 or 3 along the way.
Good fights! I wouldn't downplay the fact that you had 2 towers because those are insane damage right now!
No they aren't. They don't do anything at all with arcane jewelry and people have arcane jewelry now. Looks like the scum of Ironwrath are spreading their influence.
We didn't have full arcane jewlery, necks some people had it, but not everybody did. Towers still deal 30 damage per hit to everybody hit by it. And still waiting for you to drop anything on Ironwrath. Can't wait to level whatever city you live in to the ground, then sell your skull off to the lowest bidder.
Hahahahaha I don't think you're going to be leveling anyone's city to the ground except by zerging down smaller clans What will be interesting to see is if the guys you zerged down last night will want some revenge
Zerg down? So you were there and know first hand? And counted all the numbers? Seemed pretty even footing for both sides. You're still hiding behind your forum name, still waiting for you to actually reveal yourself. Until then, you're a coward and a joke. Bring what you will so I can plow you under. **EDIT**: Best stay away from kobolds in Dwarflands, you know that 3 Ironwrath guys will camp you at it. Gotta get dem R0's and leather.
May have lost but it was still the most fun I've had since DFO. That fight on those boats side to side can only be described as epic. I helped take the first 2 boats and died on the third. PS: You like those B-Horns boys? Too bad I used em for a loss but I'd do it again
Still waiting for your name. You aren't because you know you do nothing but live out of a NPC city, probably Yimir's Tears, judging by the amount of TEARS you keep spewing all over the boards every time you see IRONWRATH pop up. Next thing you know you'll be QQing that I camp noobs at goblins. --- Post updated --- Was pretty sure it did more, I'll have to check my system but that was hurting hella hard. We did tests before when the first zaptowers went up in a few places, (because alignment is stupid zapping reds in your own city really? But has been fixed), was hitting a guy for mid to high 20's. I could be wrong though, I don't raid cities I am too busy crafting typically.
Forgot to touch on the biggest point which was the mercenary point. It wasn't totally required, so Washed Up were mostly there in a supporting role, as the majority of the attackers don't have a ton of experience, so they were a failsafe, and to add chaos. They did an amazing job overall and I thank them for it. It wasn't a call made by the alliance, it was a call made by me, and was funded by me and me alone. So if anyone wants to look down on someone for this, I will take the full brunt of the blame here. Call it a crutch, but I really wanted people to see what true veterans can do. And let's be honest, they were able to smash the hamlet for so long by themselves, giving the attackers a chance to get in position, while the Washed Up guys lost I think 1 person for the duration of the siege? They even stopped a push out that the defenders attempted at one point. This was also spurred by the number of allies that SS was picking up prior, the list was growing and there was concern about the combined roster of 250+ was going to be too much. So like I said I made the call, it wasn't needed but they were already there and I wasn't going to tell them no to a fight they deserved. They had fun and I am glad, and if they are willing in the future I am sure I will be getting them to do more work for me in the future. The siege primarily was to secure resources, as a mine is an important thing to have in the current stage of the game, especially as people are pushing to the Leenspar era of things. All and all, the attackers got some much needed experience in siege warfare, a ton of the players had never been in a siege before so were uneasy about things, but are feeling more confident and had a ton of fun. I am glad the defenders had a good time too, and for me. I finally got my revenge on SS, they were an annoyance to me in DF1, and I got my revenge by wiping them off the server, what little actives they have left.
Without the mercenaries in the first engagement, the defenders would have continued the rout to the South and then killed the stone. They had to pull back because the mercs were in the town behind them. So it was a good call to hire the mercs and saved the attacker from almost certain defeat. It is also very easy to play as third party mercs when the opponents are outnumbered. The defenders had to be very careful not to overextended because of the numbers disadvantage. This environment makes it easy for mercs to hit and run, picking people off. The only downside for the attacker is that in the future your opponents will expect you to try and outnumber them and hire mercs. You did it to a 15 man clan, this could turn out to be a costly precedent to set.
I know people will flame, but I honestly like having towers actually give an advantage. Once they are meaningless every siege just turns into a regular battle rather than actually defending something.
Yeah while we were regrouping at the siege stone, the defenders got cut off by Washed Up which really did seal the deal as a huge part of the siege. From there they just played the outsides, they did no asset damage and eventually took over the boats when the opportunity arose. Same could be said about Scroachers, they can hit and run picking 1 person or a few people off with comehither and WoF, while they are trying to get back to the clanstone from an npc city. While we didn't take advantage of this, it was something that could have been done. If we really wanted to, we could have wardecked Absolution, and camped anybody respawning in the npc city to the west, we knew where they were respawning, and could have bindcamped them as they were picked off. --- Post updated --- I actually agree with you, and that brings a tactical decision, leave the towers up prior to pushing in, or use something to take them out before you push in. Once arcane jewlery is super common (2 rings + neck) it will be all too easy to just walk into the city with no real punishment.
