Anyone got any experience using wine (Linux) and running darkfall. Have this crazy issue where small movements on the mouse seem to move/aim me in a different direction. e.g. Moving up slowly tends to translate into moving to the side more than up. I've tried several different mice and all do the same thing. It's only a DF problem as other games work fine. The slower the movement the worse the effect seems to be.

Works wonderfully using Wine 2.4, just install directx_Jun2010_redist. FPS of about 100-140

This is a bug in Wine. Any movement of the mouse, or even moving the mouse wheel causes the pointer to drift to the lower right. Have a look at this thread:

If you drill down in the above thread to the guy talking about darkfall, link to the referenced bug, and open the attachment, you'll see this patch. I applied this patch and it fixed the issue for me:

The problem we're having with Wine is that the journal consistently crashes. I would love to hear from anybody who has a workaround for that.

Cheers Arindor, gives me the perfect place to start. Much appreciated.

Arindor, if you still require that fix for the journal. My friend managed to stop that. Shall post it tonight for you once I get home ;)

Very misleading thread title, Pykan. I'm disappointed in you.

You know me too well Floyd ;)

    Arindor, see file attached
Also I'm afraid you might need a fresh install of DF itself and make sure you say NO to the flash installer once it starts..... Unsure if that is required but hey I'm not willing to test it since it works :p Don't fix what isn't broken right ;)

    also firefox

    wine compiled from source
    wine--version
    wine-2.9-148-gdead95f893

Just in case you are running a different wine version also.

Hope that helps with the journal crash, tried and tested and working as far as I know. If you have any problems hit me up on here of course.

I tried all these configuration options, collectively, and individually. It still crashes. To be clear, the journal will work - perfectly - sometimes. But most of the time, every time I open the journal, the game client crashes. I can't believe other Linux users are not having the exact same issue? This is happening to myself and one other user that I know of. But I am sure there are other Linux users - the author of the above patch for one.

You got me a bit excited there! But I checked and it's still crashing for me - Note: not 100% of the time, but about 99% of the time, which is probably why it's working for you now. However you did provide a useful data point "hasn't worked since beta". They added EAC since beta (which as you know prevented the client from working) and that is one of the suspected causes of the Journal crashes. I'll update my support ticket with this info.

Anyone actually playing using POL/Wine? I've tried to follow other threat instructions, but nothing. I've also tried using with Proton (Wine fork from Steam Play) and it even doesn't started....

With Play on Linux I can install the game and after hours updating the game, after I press the button "PLAY" the screen only freezes on "connecting"... (couldn't be more frustrating)

Any suggestions? I'm freaky anxious to play this game, but I'll never install Windows to play it.

Sounds like you'd have a whole lot less trouble just conforming like the rest of us window zombies.

runs nicely here using pol. youve installed the prereqs: corefonts, d3dx9, and dinput8?
check the client1.log in the darkfall folder, maybe youre getting kicked by eac?

im using ubuntu, and found that only certain combos let me play without being kicked.
example, im usings 16.04 and wine 3.3, but on my 18.04 box i can only use 4.4

edit: oh and copy the 'data' folder to another spot, so you never have to redownload the game again. if you ever reinstall, recopy the data folder back before you launch.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and yes, I've tried many combos as well. Would you mind to write the exactly config for that version? For example, there's a ton of directx dlls, which one should I use? Which Wine version are you using? x86 or amd64? I really really would appreciate it! :)

works for me with wine 4.4 so try that.

check the box to 'install some libraries'
    select 32bit
    select corefonts, d3dx9, and dinput8

click cancel when the roa installer tries to install directx

after its installed, run control panel to make sure gecko, and mono are installed.
