I see absolutely no good argument to not wipe when this new influx of developers manages to bring in actual game changing content. Good LONG TERM base to build on - Wipe - Good marketing - Profit.
I voted Wipe but if we could preserve my server first cobra staff in some way that would be fantastic. Thanks. Also, I know this probably can't be a possibility but it would be so interesting to have two servers. One server with DF1 esq progression with extremely low skill rates that would never be wiped. A second server that gets wiped quarterly/bi annually with the rates that exist now. I feel both versions of the game are almost entirely different experiences. If this were to happen it, especially if wiped quarterly, it would allow the possibility to make frequent changes to the game to keep it fresh. These changes could be drastic to the point where they shift entire metas. It would allow the devs leeway and creativity to alter the game without fear of losing the core community. It could very well make the game feel new multiple times a year. Creating an ever evolving experience to come back to over the course of time. Much like POE/D2 Leagues and ladders respectively. How about BPG's fixing the simple shit BEFORE talking about a fresh start. Because nobody is staying except the same die hards after people like myself come back and realize its great ideas implemented by incompetence. /I'm trying really, but come on
While I agree that there needs to be a wipe if RoA is to have any hope of having a large player base (at least on the American server), I do not think that it is in a good state for a wipe. It has been a while since I last played so they might have gotten fixed since then, but the things I think need to be fixed b4 a wipe are: Combat improvements: The last time I played the combat didn't seem as smooth as it use to, I feel like the changes keep lowering performance. There are also combat bugs that need to be fix for example half animation ww that counts as a regular attack but still puts WW on CD. I also think most if not all of the changes should be reverted. Economy: For an MMO everything is far to easy to get, this results in every1 having stacked banks and having no reason to go out into the world resulting in less random pvp and sitting in a blue city bank staring. Long term progression: There is none, you can get pvp viable in a day or 2 and maxed out within a few days (other than the 110-120 stat grind which just isn't needed and isn't that hard to do if you actually farm). This again results in less people out in the world doing things so no random pvp. Villages: This is more of a personal taste thing but I hate the way villages work, it makes the game feel like arenafall without the limited numbers, rather than an open world game, just bank staring for 15-30 mins then porting into a village sucks and is a lot of time wasted in safe zones where you can get pvp. It also kinda sucks that you can just go with 1 person and if you see people just port in your entire clan. I would rather billboards be completely removed, but just removing them from blue cities would be a start. Lack of end game reasons for pvp: Other than loot from other players / villages there is no reason for pvp (which although these are good reasons with all the changes and how easy it is to get gear its provides very little motivation for end game pvpers that have stacked banks). Cities are also next to pointless with no real reason to fight over them. There needs to be something for higher skilled players to fight over so that lower / average skilled players can fight each other without getting killed all the time. Once all of these things are fixed it would worth while to wipe.
A wipe, or a second NA server?, would be cool after a few quarters of development with the full time team. If the NPE isn’t improved drastically then it’s a wasted opportunity to bring in new, or old, DF players.
the NA server will literally be completely dead other than people who are content farming mobs in a completely dead world. everyone is excited about the asia server because it's a wipe. a fresh start. we are going to have to play on 200-300 ping for a fresh start and we are still so excited and happy about it because we are finally getting what we want, kind of. edit: since so many people want a wipe, can you at least come up with a solution to make us happy? maybe add a seasonal server, maybe wipe the economy somehow like UW did, ANYTHING. obviously a ton of people want it
full wipe. after the first full wipe, seasonal wipes every 6-12months where the ONLY thing that carries over is ~1/10th of the gold in your bank and titles/soulbind stuff like the pickaxes. this gives gold constant value throughout the entire duration of the season, additionally incentivizing farming even once your bank is maxed as the season winds down, as you'll be farming for the next season. maybe consider lessening the grind a bit in certain areas. BUT delay this until 4-6 months after asia launch. PLAYERBASE DILUTION MUST BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. players = content
Wipe. But on the condition that a whole lot of stuff is reworked. Game seems to be in a strange state right now, feels like the development has gone in the direction of the echo box discussions in some closed off discord rooms, contrary to what the game actually needs to sustain a larger playerbase.
