Would anyone be interested in a wipe? Or nah? I know a lot of players would come back but i'm not sure if it would ever happen.
I'll always be a proponent of a wipe, but I think it needs to wait a little longer for them to add more content. Game is still dead overall and will stay that way until they add much more content. But yes. A wipe would be great to get all the exploited mechanics and banks from the past out of circulation.
Up until now I had only played a total of 2-3 months of Roa. When I came back this month I had maybe 5 inf mage bags in my bank. In the last 2 weeks of playing evenings and weekends I've managed to accumulate 2mil+ in gold/mats/gear. I've made about 40-50 full dura full plate mage bags and in another 2 weeks I'll probably have made enough to put full dura cobies/deepblades in all of those bags. The protection difference isn't really enough to merit the value of infernal or dragon so once these bags are done I don't plan on farming anymore. There's simply too many ways to farm resources and not enough players to create a bottleneck for said resources. Without low supply & high demand there's no incentive to fight. I would honestly like to see the entire population forced to play on 1 island with the rest of the map disabled and potentially even monthly wipes. The game was designed for "10,000 active players" but everyone needs to face the facts. Its a niche private server of an outdated game and even 1,000 players would be optimistic. Shrinking the map to account for a realistic population with regular bank wipes might actually make the game feel more active. These are all things that have been discussed and debated for years though so what's the point. Either way I could care less, I'm just thankful for there to be any Darkfall server still running that I get to log into and get my pvp fix. 5 years from now we might not have that privilege.
Wipe is stupid.. would only hurt the game not revive it. Why? because you reset everyone back to zero, then we realize how tedious it was in the first place.. Bank Organization.... awful and somehow worse that when you throw stackable items into a bag with stacks already they dont even merge just make multiple stacks... Bank staring is a disease.. Gear bag creation? suggested to nauseum over the years and yet..instead we get 20 more slots of item counter Enchanting GUI <--==-=-=-=- Should of been dealt with from the git go, or removed completely and just added as ingredients to the weapon/armor recipes themselves
A wipe doesn't really make sense. They haven't addressed any of the economy problems, we would run headlong into the same exact problems we have now, only worse as its even more impossible to force scarcity in a game with super low population. Once they wipe once, it devalues a lot of the persistence as it sets the precedent that they will just wipe every time things don't look right. Once they do get the economy sorted (and pop significantly raised) they need to inflate gold and mats if it appears people are not burning through stockpiles fast enough. When paired with increasing loot to compensate you effectively just cut everyone's banks down without actually taking anything away from them. This can even be done on existing gear to avoid loopholes, example: max dura is doubled on new gear, but is burned twice as fast. The desired effect is everyone gets a bank nerf without actually losing anything and all farming/activities cost effectively the same effort/risk/efficiency.
Game may have been "envisioned" to host 10,000 players, and at one time maybe half that was maybe reasonable, when you got loot off of maybe 1 out of every 5 goblins you killed and it was one feeble bow, or if you were lucky one piece of cheese, and it took you 10 minutes to farm 30 wood off a tree node and a clan of 100+ was needed to build tier1 merchants in a player city I wish people would stop spouting this number out like it was ever actually or could ever actually be a thing with the current game and engine. That being said, wipes have been discussed many times, it would be a waste of time. It would put newer and casual and older and people with less time farm behind immediately and give try hards the opportunity to feel tough for a couple weeks or a month before normals caught up and started winning and the poopsocks bandwagoned to the next game while still trolling this game on the forums or secretly playing it on alts. Can we stop trying to have this conversation?
A wipe wouldve been great when the whole shutdown started but i think they missed their chance. Ive been playing roa for three weeks and i just built a house deed and spend money on other stupid shit constantly. For example i bought a vileforge and was using it as transportation inbetween iron nodes the other day. Ive also got q4 enchanting. Game is stupid easy with this pop if youve ever played df. Haterz going to hate but wipe the shit Ps launch is always the best part of df. Wipe the shit yearly.
BPG said no wipe ever, but I probably won't be coming back without one, but that's ONLY because that's the only way I see a large and sustainable population ever happening. I'm not investing time into a dead/ low pop game for a 4th time. Enough people just aren't going to give new changes a chance without some kind of expansion/ New name relaunch That said BPG only has 1 shot left and they need to at least have the longterm progression and economy right BEFORE relaunching, otherwise the game will die again after 3 months. They also need to daily/weekly time gate/soft cap character progression and crafting to prevent TRYHARD vets from getting to infernal/ r60s and maxed magics in the first week then just crushing people into quitting in mass. Should definitely also remove mob dropped weapons over rank 20 for the first month Look at Classic WoW and how they used these strategies to stagger the progression, they don't just let you farm the best mob for the best gear in the game on day 1. There's no reason a relaunch of RoA needs to have all the highest end mobs/drops right away, This has a ton of ancillary benefits --- Post updated --- They objectively did fail, didn't address the fundamental issues many of us warned them about before launching. Wipes/ relaunches have been proven to be the only way to revive games once they get as dead as RoA --- Post updated --- I'm normally against seasonal wipes, but one thing to consider is a wipe IF AND ONLY IF both certain time and objective based conditions are met Example once the server has been up for 12 months if any single clan controls 60-75% of all holdings they can trigger a "Ragnarok" event and if that clan wins the event then they are named the "Aesir", a wipe happens, and the winning clan/players get titles/ small perks/ their names/clan name on ingame statues that carry over into a fresh World 2. And of course they should be recognized on a tab in the website That way the players have a say in the wipe AND those who DON'T WANT it have an incentive to show up and fight to stop the dominating clan from getting 75% territory control or winning the end of the world event @Neilk @Andrew @Metalkon @Billy Lee @Bound thoughts? That said, I really think we need 1 wipe regardless once the stuff is fixed that led to a wipe being necessary in the first place, the foundation is rotten. BPG fixed stuff after damage was already done. --- Post updated --- I'm normally against seasonal wipes, but one thing to consider is a wipe IF AND ONLY IF both certain time and objective based conditions are met Example once the server has been up for 12 months if any single clan controls 60-75% of all holdings they can trigger a "Ragnarok" event and if that clan wins the event then they are named the "Aesir", a wipe happens, and the winning clan/players get titles/ small perks/ their names/clan name on ingame statues that carry over into a fresh World 2. BPG fixed stuff after damage was already done. You are 100% WRONG about this and I have repeatedly written indepth posts on how to prevent early game Tryhard vet power cliffs that plagued all previous DF launches. And for the record I was making those same posts before RoA even launched, they got a lot of "likes" but went ignored by BPG. And I was 100% right about my timeline predicting extreme population dropoff after the first 3 months if it launched unaddressed
Without a grind there is nothing to do in this game. at launch of this game you got an (effectively) max char in a month and quit because you had no reason to log in day to day anymore. now you can (effectively)max out in a couple of days even with 0 help. There needs to be some driving force behind player activity, for most of dfo that was acquiring wealth so you could lvl your character, and pvp happened organically due to the people being out in the world pveing. but this game doesnt have any. If the only content in the game is PvP for the sake of PvP it makes losers quit until theres so few people left that pvp becomes too hard to comeby and everyone quits.
a wipe dont mean shit if you game consists of 80% buggs FIx your game first then start talking about stuff to increase playerbase. Also waiting for TC patch since 1805
Seasonal server that is a fresh start that lasts for a month, that allows you to bring back achievement rewards. Pause the current server while the Seasonal server is going on. So many different games do seasonal style servers. BPG's unwillingness to even try this is absurd.
should wipe the game if you want more players. the amount of players coming back will be way larger than the amount of players quiting the game, seasonal bank wipes are fine because the fact that pro ass players get good shit in like a few days is fine because there is such a large player base, theres gonna be clans that just farm up like that too, theres will be atleast 10 large effective clans at the start of wipe, i dont see how 1 specific clan would be the only ones to do that.
