The issue is micro transactions can be bought and sold in game so who should get the micro transactions, the people who currently have them or the people who originally bought them? You also cant release the same game by the same company and say you aren't getting your micro transactions back. (Although this wouldn't apply to 1 time use micro transactions that have already been used such as game time tokens.) So things like skins, chests, and bank tabs should be carried over but to who is the problem. I personally think the people who currently have them. However I can see the other side as well, if you sell them for in game currency that doesn't exist any more and there is a fresh game you would probably feel like you should get them back. Although this is kind of a pointless discussion as they have made it clear there will not be a wipe. Also to the people asking for a wipe, a wipe in its current state would be pointless. Multiple things need to be changed / added b4 a wipe would even have a chance of making RoA successful. For example: Much better new player experience, good default binds for all skills / spells rather than getting lost trying to do them yourself. Village system needs to be clearer, I came back recently and went to a few villages and had no idea what kind of village I was going to, but I didn't play long because of mouse issues so maybe I missed something. A much better economy / long term progression with the ability to keep adding more long term progression. A combat revert to RoA beta. Improved game performance, the game does not feel as smooth as it use to + DnD felt a lot smoother. A lot of advertising. For the relaunch.
Hopefully they keep to their word and don't wipe. Wipe speculation alone killed DFO, and wipe killed unholy shit. How can they not get that no one will want to invest time in a game, if the time investment can be erased willy nilly? Just go for a soft wipe by adding in some new stuff/resources in a solid patch, mayhaps x2 all drops and costs, and call it an expansion, advertise a bit, gg.
A few things here: BPG's statement regarding the likelihood of a wipe isn't a useful point of discussion in this thread, they can reverse that decision easily and we are also operating under the assumption that they will do so. My view, and I think the majority view, agrees with your point about wiping in the current state. There is also an assumption that the wipe would include a massively revamped NPE, reintroduction of the character grind and marketing/steam release. To the question of who gets the items that were purchased pre-wipe: it's the current holder of the item. There will be a potential loss for those who purchased items and sold them, though likely this is mitigated by their use of in game currency/items since the sale of their purchased micro transaction item. It's something that would be unpopular, but would have to be done.
I haven't played in a long time and from what i'm told the population is pretty much non existent. Now if its really that bad, financially i'm pretty sure they would gain a lot more with a wipe then they would lose (population wise and financially). I would love to see real active numbers (not counting boxed characters) on how many log in daily, and whats the current active playerbase.
TLDR maybe wipe but now right now The only way to fix the server without wiping would be to add some insane gold sinks that people would actually use.
The point is this wouldn't happen, sure the first couple months would have more activity but then it would die off again and end up in the same position apart from people who didn't want a wipe pissed off and the devs would lose trust because they said there would be no wipe and it would end up in a worse state than it is now.
Not sure who is telling you that? Go look at the video section, the game hasn't seen this much activity since launch.
Looks like most screaming for wipe have no idea about the current state of the game and are very much delusional about what is realisticly possible to change before a wipe would have any kind of positive impact... which it will most likely not have in the long run anyway... I recommend anyone reading this thread that is not playing right now. Start playing folks... population is better than i have seen in any version of df since i started playing in uw. If you played df at some point you should not have many problems starting out in roa besides redoing your binds
I always ask that question and I always get the same response, that it's usually some siege or some event. Which is a good thing, you want people to log in for that type of content. I'm just talking about the day to day non siege activity, I think I logged in about a month ago or so and just randomly picked a direction and didn't see a soul. That is my concern, or reason to log in to play. Which is probably the question to why the wipe thread lol. Thats why I always ask, would a wipe bring in more people and more money? Pretty sure the server/client is in a far better shape than it was at launch, and if you guys do a steam sale too i'd imagine that would be a big boost. Specially now with everyone being home, could be a big profit/population boom. Again though, I don't speak for others as I love the first 3-4 months of DF when its the most fun when pvp is random, shits a blast!
Here you go, from agon metrics. Quite easy to be specific: EDIT: Based on ganks so not fully accurate
A peak total of 150 people during the coronavirus quarantines when all MMO's are seeing a huge spike in population has convinced BPG that they are succeeding and that there is no need to consider other possible actions. nice
but they haven't seen so much activity since launch!!111 To be honest its depressing as hell seeing BPG employees repeat that same thing over and over, yet when I log in there is nothing to do and nothing going on ever and when I go roam the world I never find anyone doing anything. Even when we did villages, literal pvp hotspots that you teleport to with zero effort half the time no one showed up and when they did they were zerged or zerging rendering it unfun and pretty pointless content. Maybe their internal numbers of actives that they see really are higher but if those people aren't on agon metrics at all then they are not contributing it all to the game world and honestly count as zero players. As long as neilk has been saying things are looking up population wise you would think the game would be booming by now, but its very clearly not. Don't worry though I am sure all these post will be deleted/censored.
theres been insane activity lately. were talking about hundreds of kills/ganks per day as well as mills/tens of mills of gear being redistriubuted per day. Its giving people a lot of experience which is particularly important in an mmorpg. They just need to buff medium level PVE (minos/menhirs/grey orks/raven standards) then theres many places to farm at, and jump people again.
A lot of players play rise of agon...devs. for me are in the right way!!! Make more easy and fast make or buy gear set please...
but games activity has gone up by like 4x in the past 2 months so what the hell do I know lol, bpg started slow but they are picking up now obviously
It's pretty pathetic how satisfied certain people at BPG seem with the status quo. Mark my words the already extremely low (even for a private server MMO or survival game) numbers will drop after the Covid-19 (unwarranted) lockdowns end I don't know why I seem to care more about the game and population than the people running it, you would think they'd want to capitalize and make some real $ More unique names literally die on my brothers 300 player cap Rust server each day. I'm not even joking. Everyone who has ever looked at the data knows when the biggest population rebounds/booms happen on any MMO or survival game server Now show me a single game server of ANY game that got as low as RoA and had a population boom without some kind of relaunch or expansion with a hard wipe or soft wipe People in significant numbers do not return to try games that reach this point no matter how good your patches have improved it since launch. Not to mention all the damage to the economy that built up before the fixes. And saying "well activity is way up because we have 120 ganks per day average since the lockdowns up from 20 in January" is like saying "holy shit Wisconsin just had a massive Covid-19 spike because they went from 2 cases last week to 9 this week! Color it red on the outbreak map and SHUT IT DOWN!" It's still practically nothing. Darkfall is meant to have 5,000-10,000 people online at the same time.
--- Post updated --- A wipe would be worthless the game is in its poorest state it’s ever been in. There are so many bugs it’s to the point where hits don’t even register on characters and swings go right through the other player without taking damage, blinds are broken and don’t blind if you look directly at it. Don’t get me started on how cancer Pve is now.
well incrementally speaking quardrupling your pop in a month or two is pretty good lol. Well see if it doubles again within another month
